Area basketball roundup: Parkston tops Avon boys

PARKSTON -- With an 18-point first quarter, the Parkston boys basketball team defeated Avon 51-24 on Tuesday in Parkston.

Dillan Thuringer and Wes Genant each scored 14 points in the win. Josh Rands added seven rebounds, Genant had six and Ty Kinneberg added three assists. Parkston went 20-of-50 from the field, 6-of-7 from the free throw line and outrebounded Avon 37-22.

Avon was led by Logan Mudder with nine points and 14 rebounds. Devin Tolsma added eight rebounds for the Pirates, who were 8-of-50 from the field and 8-of-15 from the line.

Parkston (3-0) plays Miller on Monday at the Parkston Classic, while Avon (0-3) plays Alcester-Hudson on Jan. 2 in Alcester.

Scotland 42, Dakota Christian 41

SCOTLAND -- The Scotland boys basketball team edged Dakota Christian 42-41 on Tuesday to earn its third straight win of the season.

Tanner Skorepa scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Shaye Bloch added 11 points for Scotland, which shot 17-of-37 from the field, 5-of-8 from the line and had 19 rebounds and six turnovers.

Drew Veurink had 10 points and nine rebounds, Chase Pheifer recorded 10 points and Michael Maas added nine rebounds in the loss. The Cadets were 12-of-27 from the field, 2-of-3 from the line and had 16 turnovers.

Scotland (3-1) hosts Centerville on Jan. 3, while Dakota Christian (0-4) won the JV game and plays Burke/South Central on Jan. 8 in Burke.
