AVON -- Shalayne Nagel registered a triple-double to lead Avon past Colome 67-47 in girls basketball action on Monday.

Avon (4-2): Nagel posted 24 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and made 11 steals, while also handing out four assists. Ali Sees added 16 points and three steals. The Pirates face Ethan on Thursday at the Corn Palace.

Colome (1-3): Makayla Shippy had 13 points, while Libbie Petersek added 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Cowgirls host Kimball/White Lake on Thursday.

HOWARD -- Howard held previously unbeaten Colman-Egan to four points in the fourth quarter to seal the win on Monday.

Howard (3-1): Hilary Albrecht scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and made four steals. Kenedy Koepsell chipped in 10 points and four steals. The Tigers host Menno today.

Colman-Egan (5-1): Mackenzie Hemmer had eight points, eight rebounds and three steals. The Hawks play Elkton-Lake Benton on Friday in Colman.

GAYVILLE -- Class B No. 1 Corsica-Stickney took down Gayville-Volin in girls basketball action on Monday.

Corsica-Stickney (5-0): Avery Broughton powered the Jaguars with 21 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists. Raven Barse added 11 points and eight boards. Morgan DeLange tossed in 11 points. The Jaguars host Wagner on Saturday.

Gayville-Volin (1-5): Molly Larson finished with 11 points and six rebounds. The Raiders host Scotland today in Gayville.

CANISTOTA -- Irene-Wakonda limited to Canistota to seven points in the fourth quarter to secure a win in girls basketball play on Monday.

Irene-Wakonda (6-1): Nora O’Malley scored a game-high 21 points, while Malloy O’Malley had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Alison Logue had 16 points and six rebounds, while Katie Knodel pitched in 10 points. The Eagles play Freeman today in Irene.

Canistota (0-4): Harley Cormany finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Skyler Bultje had 10 points and McKenzy Krinke had nine points and nine rebounds. The Hawks play host Sioux Falls Christian on Thursday.

AVON -- Logan Schuurmans recorded a monster double-double to power the Avon boys basketball team to a victory over Colome on Monday.


Avon (2-3): Schuurmans finished with 17 points, 20 rebounds and two blocked shots for the Pirates. Ashton Frank added 14 points and 11 boards. Carter Fillaus, Trent Raysby and Lincoln Thury each finished with six points and seven rebounds apiece. Riley Rucktaeschel posted six points, five steals and five rebounds. The Pirates play Ethan on Thursday at the Corn Palace.

Colome (1-3): Brayden Seegers finished with nine points and eight rebounds. Jacob Beekers and Billey Looking Cloud scored six points apiece. The Cowboys begin play in the Jones County Invitational on Jan. 16 in Murdo.
