Area basketball roundup: Mitchell's massive double-double guides Gregory past Jones County

Led by Daniel Mitchell, Gregory cruised past Jones County, 71-45, on Saturday in boys basketball play.

Gregory (9-9): Mitchell exploded for 38 points and 20 rebounds. Cruz Kludt chipped in 14 points and eight boards in the win. The Gorillas play Highmore-Harrold on Monday in Highmore.

Jones County (7-11): Wyatt Olson scored a team-high 13 points. Jett Nix and Kayin Convey each added 12 points. The Coyotes play Bennett County on Friday in Martin.

ARMOUR -- Tripp-Delmont/Armour pulled away from Avon to pick up a boys basketball win on Saturday.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (9-7): Dylan Van Der Werff 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Logan Vanpelt chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds. Kandon Bialas chipped in 10 points. The Nighthawks play Corsica-Stickney on Tuesday in Corsica.

Avon (3-13): Eli Watchorn added 11 points. Riley Rucktaeschel scored a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds.

Area girls basketball

MCM 64, Garretson 52

McCook Central/Montrose cruised past Garretson for a girls basketball victory on Saturday.

McCook Central/Montrose (12-5): Madisen Koepsell finished with a 26-point, 10-rebound double-double. Ashtyn Wobig added 29 points in the win. The Fighting Cougars travel to Tri-Valley on Monday.

Garretson (14-4): Lizzie Olson scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Jaelyn Benson scored 11 points. The Blue Dragons travel to Parker on Tuesday.

Jones County 45, Gregory 27

GREGORY -- Jones County notched a win over Gregory on Saturday in girls basketball action.

Jones County (12-5): Mallory Valborg scored 13 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and added three steals in the win. Peyton Ronkin chipped in nine points and six boards. Emma Hunt scored nine points and Jadyn Jensen grabbed seven rebounds. The Coyotes travel to White River on Tuesday.

Gregory (3-15): Jessy Jo VanDerWerff finished with 19 points and five rebounds. Morgan opbroek grabbed seven boards. The Gorillas host Colome on Monday.
