Area basketball roundup: Huskies cruise past Cowboys

Bridgewater-Emery earned a season-opening win over Colome.

NEW HOLLAND -- Bridgewater-Emery opened its boys basketball season with a 59-26 win over Colome on Thursday.

Bridgewater-Emery (1-0): Sutton Arend paced the Huskies with 15 pounds on 7-for-10 shooting. Sam Hofer and Bodie Burnham each had 11 points, while Camden Dye chipped in 10 points. Hofer hit a team-high three 3-pointers in the win. The Huskies play Corsica-Stickney on Friday in Corsica.

Colome (0-1): Caden Munroe scored a team-high six points for the Cowboys. Billy Looking Cloud chipped in five points. The Cowboys travel to Gregory on Dec. 17.

Wessington Springs 51, Faulkton Area 48

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Faulkton Area missed a last-second 3-pointer to give Wessington Springs a season-opening boys basketball win on Thursday.

Wessington Springs (1-0): Jacob Messmer paced the Spartans with 18 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Dylan Schimke and Tyler Kole both added eight points, while Kole dished out six assists. The Spartans host Hitchcock-Tulare on Dec. 17.

Faulkton Area (0-1): Hunter Niederbaumer finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Ryan Beckler chipped in 10 points in the loss. The Trojans play Herreid/Selby Area on Dec. 17 in Selby.
