Area basketball roundup: Hanson boys down Kimball/White Lake at the Corn Palace

A fast start propelled Hanson to a 56-33 win over Kimball/White Lake in boys basketball action on Monday night at the Corn Palace.

Hanson (4-0): Kade Waldera paced all scorers with 15 points, while Ethan Cheeseman finished just short of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. Isayah Price and Jayce Slaba both contributed nine points for the Beavers, who host Irene-Wakonda on Dec. 30.

Kimball/White Lake (2-1): Ryder Michalek led the Wildkats with 12 points, as Dawson Miller chipped in seven points. KWL is on the road at Highmore-Harrold on Dec. 21.

Howard 70, Freeman 33

FREEMAN — Howard’s offense scored 40 first-half points and its defense allowed nine points after halftime as the Tigers earned a road win over Freeman on Monday night.

Howard (2-1): Individual statistics were not available for the Tigers, who face off with Freeman Academy/Marion in the Hoop City Classic on Dec. 29.

Freeman (0-5): Brady Kaufman put up 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Tate Sorensen chipped in eight points, as Blake Rumelhart added five points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Flyers, who are at Irene-Wakonda on Jan. 4.

Girls basketball

Hanson 73, Avon 43

Hanson surged to 24 first-quarter points and never trailed as the Beavers ran past Avon in girls basketball action on Monday night at the Corn Palace.

Hanson (3-1): Alyssa Moschell led the way with 14 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists, as Annalyse Weber followed closely with 13 points, four assists and four steals. Five Beavers — Moschell, Weber, Vanessa Doyle (12 points), Erin Dewald (11) and Karlie Goergen (10) — reached double figures in scoring. Hanson hosts Irene-Wakonda on Dec. 30.

Avon (0-4): Courtney Sees scored 12 points, while Tiffany Pelton added eight points and four rebounds. McKenna Kocmich and Katie Gretchmann had five and four assists, respectively, for the Pirates, who host Colome on Jan. 3.
