Area basketball roundup: Dickson scores 1,000th career point in SCW boys victory

HURON -- Noah Dickson netted his 1,000th career point and finished with 20 points in Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s 58-34 boys basketball win over Miller at the Huron Classic on Friday.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (4-1): Dickson also collected 15 rebounds in the victory. Tater Moody added 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Cayden Slykhuis added eight points and six rebounds. The Blackhawks play Bridgewater-Emery on Tuesday in Emery.

Miller (0-4): Spencer Fernholz tossed in 17 points for the Rustlers. Miller hosts Wolsey-Wessington on Tuesday.

Howard 88, Freeman 28

FREEMAN -- Howard used a 57-point first half to power past Freeman on Friday in boys basketball action.

Howard (4-0): Jake Brooks scored a team-high 22 points. Tisyn Spader added 15 points. The Tigers host Colman-Egan on Monday.

Freeman (0-5): Micah Swensen recorded 10 points, three steals and two rebounds. Bradey Kaufman added five points and two rebounds. The Flyers play Irene-Wakonda on Tuesday in Irene.

GREGORY -- Gregory scored 17 points apiece in the first two quarters to gain a 16-point halftime lead on Gayville-Volin to earn a boys basketball win on Friday.

Gregory (4-2): Coy Determan scored 26 points and Tommy Determan added 13 points, while Bryan Eagle Star grabbed eight rebounds. The Gorillas play Andes Central/Dakota Cristian today in Lake Andes.

Gayville-Volin (3-1): Andrew Gustad had 10 points. The Raiders play Scotland on Tuesday in Gayville.

Hanson (4-0): Reggie Slaba led the Beavers with 16 points to go with six rebounds. Riley Ferry recorded a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Noah Price added 12 points and five boards, while Luke Haiar scored 11 points in the win. The Beavers travel to Parkston on Tuesday.

Irene-Wakonda (0-6): Gavin Spurrell finished with 11 points. Dashel Spurrell added nine points. The Eagles play Freeman on Tuesday in Irene.

Alcester-Hudson (2-3): Jaxon Doering led the Cubs with 20 points. Alex Winquist had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The Cubs play Menno on Jan. 10 in Alcester.

Ethan (2-3): Brady Hawkins poured in 29 points and collected 14 rebounds. Josh Bartscher added 12 points and eight boards. The Rustlers play Avon on Thursday at the Corn Palace.

WINNER -- Class A No. 1 Winner led 19-3 after the first quarter and coasted to a girls basketball win over Bon Homme on Friday.

Winner (4-0): Bella Swedlund finished with 17 points and four steals. Kalla Bertram added 11 points and five steals. Maggie LaCompte buried three 3-pointers on her way to nine points. The Warriors travel to Parkston today.

Bon Homme (0-4): Jaden Kortan led the Cavaliers with nine points, while Ciera Himes scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Cavaliers play Parker on Tuesday in Tyndall.

Alcester-Hudson (0-5): Abby Walth recorded 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Roni Rhead finished with nine points and six rebounds. The Cubs play Menno on Jan. 10 in Alcester.

BONESTEEL -- Burke pulled away from a one-point halftime lead and defeated Jones County by 12 points in girls basketball action on Friday.

Burke (2-3): Sally Hakin finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Taylee Indahl recorded 10 points and seven rebounds. The Cougars play Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Thursday in Lake Andes.
