PLANKINTON -- Megan Bultsma recorded a double-double to help the Mount Vernon/Plankinton girls' basketball team beat Dakota Christian 43-32 Thursday.

Bultsma tallied 13 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks for MVP, which was 22-of-57 from the field.

Becca Glanzer chipped with 12 points, while Makaela Karst had 11 rebounds and six rebounds.

Dakota Christian was led by Ahna Vander Pol, who recorded 15 points and four steals.

Brooklyn Vander Pol added six rebounds as the Cadets went 12-of-34 from the field.


MVP (3-2) hosts Gregory today in Plankinton, while Dakota Christian (4-2) hosts Kimball/White Lake Tuesday in New Holland.

Alcester-Hudson 45, Marion 24

ALCESTER - The Marion girls’ basketball team fell to Alcester-Hudson 45-24 Thursday in Alcester.

Erica Schoenwald had nine points and five rebounds for Marion, which was 10-of-35 from the field.

Briana Davis had a team-high five rebounds for the Bears, who grabbed 17 rebounds and were 4-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Alcester-Hudson was led by Shenia Doering and Jamie Jansen, who each scored 10 points.

Marion (0-4) plays Centerville Thursday in Centerville, while AH (4-0) plays Avon today in Avon.

Centerville 66, Freeman 59

FREEMAN - The Freeman girls’ basketball team dropped its first game of the season Thursday, losing 66-59 to Centerville.

Freeman was 24-of-50 from the field and 3-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Taylor Hermsen and Erika Sage led the way for the Flyers. Hermsen tallied 15 points, while Sage had 14 points. Nicole Saarie added nine points and three rebounds.

Centerville outrebounded Freeman 39-17. The Tornadoes were led by Shannon O’Malley, who scored 25 points.

Emily Snyder chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds, while Logan O’Toole added 10 points.

Freeman (4-1) plays Irene/Wakonda Monday in Wakonda, while Centerville (2-5) plays Canton Tuesday in Canton.

Boys’ basketball

McCook Central/Montrose 54, Chester Area 47

CHESTER - Will Gottlob scored 34 points to help the McCook Central/Montrose boys’ basketball team beat Chester Area 54-47.

Gottlob also had six rebounds, while Cole Cheeseman chipped in with 10 points.

MCM was also red hot from the free-throw line. The Fighting Cougars were 24-of-27 from the charity stripe.

Chester Area was led by Cole Acheson, who had a team-high 18 points.

Jesse Kreutzfeldt added 13 points for Chester Area.

MCM won the JV game 39-23.

MCM (4-1) plays Chester Area again Thursday at the Big East Conference tournament in Parker. Chester (2-3) plays Monday at Oldham-Ramona/Rutland in Chester.

ALCESTER - The Marion boys’ basketball team fell to Alcester-Hudson 67-40 Thursday.

Jacob Wuertz led the way for Marion. He tallied 16 points and had nine rebounds. Lincoln Langerock chipped in with 13 points, while Nick

Gortmaker had six assists and six steals.

Marion was 17-of-37 from the field.

Alcester-Hudson was led by Sam Jensen and Grant Johnson, who each scored 16 points.

Grant Johnson also had 11 rebounds, while Mitchell Johnson added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Marion (1-2) plays Centerville Thursday in Centerville, while AH (4-2) plays Avon today in Avon.
