PARKSTON-The Parkston/Ethan/Tripp baseball team staved off a late rally by Vermillion to top the Tanagers, 4-3, on Friday.
PET scored two runs apiece in the first and sixth innings, though only one was earned as Vermillion committed seven errors. Rylan Leischner went 2-for-3 with an RBI for PET. Nate Doering earned the win as he allowed two runs (one earned) in three innings of work. Kade Bialas allowed an earned run in his four-inning start.
Vermillion racked up 10 hits, including two-hit games from Jack Kratz, Dylan Thelen and Jacob Peterson. Jacob Chaussee gave up four runs (one earned) on five hits in a six-inning start.
PET (7-2) hosts Parker for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
Honkers score late to top Gregory County

PLATTE-Blake Moke's RBI double put the Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake/Corsica baseball team ahead for good in a 3-1 win over Gregory County on Friday.
Moke drove in two runs for the Honkers, while Kelby VanDerWerff went 2-for-3. The Honkers picked up five hits as a team. VanDerWerff also tossed a complete game as he struck out nine and conceded a run on three hits.
Aaron Sundquist, Hunter VanNuewenhuis and Gunner Stephens each had a hit for Gregory. VanNuewenhuis suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Sundquist struck out four in a one-run 4 1/3-inning start.
The Honkers (4-2) play Winner/Colome at 5:30 p.m. today in Winner.
WWSSC held to three hits in loss
WESSINGTON SPRINGS-Deuel racked up 13 hits in an 11-1 win over Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central on Friday in prep baseball action.
Kyler Swenson led Deuel with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. Kyler Tvedt, Skyler Solsaa, Noah Wiersma and Mitchell Noem all had two hits. Cameron Thue struck out nine in his one-run start which spanned five innings.
For WWSSC, Tyler Fastnacht had two hits and drove in a run. Cayden Slykhuis struck out eight but have up 11 runs (eight earned) over five innings.
