CANOVA-The Howard baseball team swept a doubleheader against Elkton-Lake Benton on Friday. The Tigers (7-2) scored 10 runs between the third and fourth innings en route to a 12-3 win in Game 1, then used an eight-run sixth inning to defeat the Elks 10-5 in the second game.

In Game 1, Isaac Feldhaus hit two doubles to help him drive in a pair of runs for the Tigers. Riley Genzlinger and Dale Jackson both had two hits and Tanner Jacobsen drove in a trio of runs. Genzlinger earned the win thanks to striking out four in his three-inning start, while Kieffer Klinkhammer and Noah Anderson finished the shutout.

Feldhaus went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the second game, while Jackson also added a pair of hits. Feldhaus earned the win, too, allowing four unearned runs and striking out nine in six innings.

Honkers shut out Royals

PLATTE-Kelby VanDerWerff surrendered four hits and two walks in a complete-game shutout, as Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake/Corsica defeated Winner/Colome, 6-0, on Friday.

VanDerWerff needed only 97 pitches and never allowed a Royal runner past second base in the game, while also helping himself at the plate to hand Winner/Colome its first loss of the season.

The Honkers (2-1) broke a scoreless tie on an RBI double by Blake Moke in the bottom of the third inning and VanDerWerff drove him in with another RBI double on the next at-bat.

Landon Schulte and Miles Hubers had RBIs, while Grayson Hanson had a two-run double as part of a four-run fifth inning for the Honkers.

Layton Thieman went 2-for-2 at the plate for Winner/Colome (4-1), as Jackson Kinzer took the loss on the mound after allowing four runs on seven hits in four innings.

The Honkers is back on the diamond Sunday against St. Thomas More in Platte.

Winner/Colome returns to action Wednesday in a rematch against the Honkers in Winner.
