Area baseball: Hanson/Aurora rallies to whisk past Wagner

Hanson/Aurora used a late rally to sneak past Wagner 6-4 Wednesday in high school baseball action.

ALEXANDRIA -- Hanson/Aurora used a late rally to sneak past Wagner 6-4 Wednesday in high school baseball action.

Trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Daniel Laufman singled to left to bring in a run and an error on the next at-bat tied the game. In the sixth, Kolby Kayser singled to right to drive in the go-ahead run and a bases-loaded walk of Brady Fox padded the lead.

Wagner (1-3) took the lead with a four-run fourth inning on a two-run double by Jayden Aungie and a two-run single by Joey Cournoyer.

Isiah Olson went the distance on the mound for Hanson/Aurora (1-0), allowing four earned runs on four hits and three weeks. Kayser, Fox, Laufman and Thomas Stange had two hits each.

Ayden Brugier took the loss for Wagner, allowing three earned runs on 11 hits.

The Ducks played Parkston/Ethan/Tripp Thursday in Parkston. The Red Raiders travel to Menno/Scotland April 28 in Menno.

Madison 12, WWSSC 5

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Madison’s nine-run second inning doomed Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Wednesday.

The Blackhawks jumped in front with two runs in the first, but the Bulldogs exploded for seven of their 13 hits in the second inning, including a two-run home run by Zach Whitlock.

Draven Thompson had two RBIs, while Cooper Hainy, Mason Schelske and Cade Mohling had two hits apiece for WWSSC (1-6). Gerritt Brandenburg and Cooper Hainy combined to allow six earned runs on 10 hits, while fanning six.

Ty Jorgenson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Whitlock was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Madison (8-4). Nathan Ricke went four innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and struck out seven.

The Blackhawks host Howard Sunday in Wessington Springs. The Bulldogs host Elkton-Lake Benton Thursday.
