Amateur baseball roundup: Winner/Colome Pheasants post 17 hits against Dimock/Emery Raptors
Winner/Colome’s Austin Calhoon, Chandler Bakley belt homers in Sunshine League win
WINNER -- Austin Calhoon and Chandler Bakley clubbed home runs in Winner/Colome’s 14-3 Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Dimock/Emery on Sunday.
Calhoon crushed a grand slam. Bakley belted a three-run homer, finishing with five hits and five RBIs. Derek Graesser had three hits and two RBIs. Reed Harter, Dillon Lambley and Austin Richey had two hits apiece. Zach Harter and Brendan Kamerzell each had a hit.
Reed Harter struck out four batters, gave up four hits and three earned runs to earn the win.
For Dimock-Emery, Sam Michels finished with two hits and Sam Pischke had a hit. Pischke gave up six hits, eight earned runs and struck out zero batters in 1 1/3 innings in the loss.
Winner/Colome (9-3, 6-3 Sunshine League) plays Redfield on Friday in Plankinton. Dimock/Emery (6-6, 3-4 Sunshine League) hosts Mount Vernon on Thursday in Sunshine League action.
Corsica/Stickney 14, Parkston 4 (7 innings)
PARKSTON -- Aaron Groeneweg belted two home runs in Corsica-Stickney’s Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Parkston on Sunday.
Groeneweg, Dillon Turner, Nathan Blom and Jordan Dirkes had two hits apiece for the Jaguars, who had 12 total hits from eight different players. Groeneweg drove in five runs.
Ryan Buck, Blake Moke, Bryce Plamp, Luke Bamberg and Gavin Zomer each had a hit. Moke struck out four batters, gave up five hits and three earned runs to earn the win.
For Parkston, Zach Uttecht had two hits and drove in three runs. Jeff Harris, Dawson Semmler and Nathan Boettcher each had a hit. Starter Nick Haivala gave up five hits, seven earned runs and struck out zero batters in one inning.
Corsica-Stickney (1-9, 1-7 Sunshine League) plays at Platte on Friday. Parkston (3-13, 1-7 Sunshine League) hosts the Plankinton Gold Sox on Thursday.
Alexandria 7, Platte 3
PLATTE -- Adam Durfee, Tyson Gau and Cole Wenande crushed home runs in Alexandria’s Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Platte on Sunday.
Wenande had three of Alexandria’s 11 hits and smacked a three-run homer to reach the final margin. Gau, Durfee and Michael Schoettmer posted two hits apiece. Jed Schmidt and Jerrod Zens each had a hit.
Gau struck out 13 batters, surrendered six hits and two earned runs in the complete-game performance.
Platte’s Grant Lang had two hits and belted a two-run homer. Richard Sternberg, Ryan Allen, Matthew Randall and Derek Soukup each had a hit. Miles Hubers gave up 10 hits, four earned runs and struck out two batters in 5 2/3 innings.
Alexandria (11-1, 8-1 Sunshine League) hosts Baltic on July 6. Platte (5-4, 4-4 Sunshine League) hosts Corsica-Stickney on Friday.
South Central 10, Plankinton Gold Sox 0 (7 innings)
GREGORY -- South Central received 14 hits from eight different players in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over the Plankinton Gold Sox on Sunday.
Jaden Frank finished 3 of 4 and drove in a run, while Christian Schweigert, J.J. Beck, Jayd VanDerWerff and Aaron Sundquist each had two hits. Beck drove in three runs, while Schweigert and VanDerWerff had two RBIs apiece. Aaron Vomacka, Jace Faulkner and Blake Boes each had a hit.
Beck struck out four batters, allowed three hits and zero runs in three innings to earn the win.
For the Gold Sox, Tye Harris finished 2 of 3. Jesse Grosdidier and Landon Bruinsma each had a hit. Devin Mehlhaff allowed 14 hits, 10 earned runs and struck out five batters in the loss.
South Central (6-6) hosts Wessington Springs on July 8. The Gold Sox (3-7) host Four Corners on Thursday.
Plankinton Bankers 11, Chamberlain 1
PLANKINTON -- The Plankinton Bankers had 13 hits and Josh Engquist struck out 15 batters in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over Chamberlain on Sunday.
Cole Knippling and Trevor Salmonson both had two hits and three RBIs. Knippling crushed a three-run homer. Trevor Boyd and Chad Cody both had two hits apiece.
Preston Kristensen, Chris Hill, Josh Geppert, Engquist and Kyle Bruinsma each had a hit. Engquist gave up six hits, one unearned run and issued one walk on 111 pitches.
For Chamberlain, Mike Schwartz and Cole Nachtigal had two hits apiece. Adam Scheider and Remington Rossow both had hits. Scheider gave up 10 hits, eight earned runs and struck out four batters in the loss.
Plankinton (11-0 Pony Hills League) hosts Four Corners on Thursday. Chamberlain (2-8 Pony Hills League) plays at Colome on Thursday.
Miller/Wessington 7, Wessington Springs 5
WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Miller/Wessington and Wessington Springs combined for 29 hits in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball game on Sunday.
Jay Winter and Josh Koeck led Miller/Wessington with three hits apiece. Juan Sabalier, Ryan Soler and Rafael Clemente had two hits apiece for Miller/Wessington, which posted 17 hits.
Cody Cotton struck out five batters, allowed seven hits and three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win.
For Wessington Springs, Trey Weber, Terek Butterfield, Trevor Kenobbie, Armando Rodriguez and Drew Olinger each had two hits. Rodriguez drove in a pair of runs. Engles Perez and Clayton Dornbusch each had two hits. Butterfield gave up 14 hits, three earned runs and struck out nine batters in the loss.

Canova 3, Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 1
CANOVA -- Jared Miller’s two-run homer in the eighth inning propelled Canova to a Cornbelt League amateur baseball win over the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks on Sunday.
Miller, Trey Krier and Cole Gassman had two hits apiece. Jason Miller struck out four batters, gave up no hits and no runs in two relief innings to earn the win. Krier struck out two batters, gave up six hits and one unearned run in the first seven innings.
Canova (12-2) hosts the Dell Rapids Mudcats on Tuesday in Cornbelt League action.
Tabor 11, Freeman 9
FREEMAN -- Tabor and Freeman combined for three home runs and 26 hits in a South Central League amateur baseball slugfest on Sunday.
Tabor’s Hunter Hallock and Bryce Scieszinski both smacked three-run homers. Hallock finished with three hits and Scieszinski added two hits for Tabor, which recorded 18 hits. Joey Slama finished 5 of 6, while Austin White added three hits. Sam Caba recorded two hits, while Beau Rothschadl, Chris Sutera and Christian Uecker each had a hit.
Rothschadl earned the win after striking out two batters in two scoreless relief innings.
For Freeman, Bailey Sage went 2 of 4 and drove in seven runs, including a grand slam.
Tabor (4-6) plays at Lesterville on Friday. Freeman (5-7) hosts the Yankton Lakers on Thursday.
Yankton Tappers 12, Menno 5
YANKTON -- The Yankton Tappers recorded three innings with four runs apiece in a South Central League amateur baseball win over Menno on Sunday.
The Tappers finished with 12 hits, including two apiece from Caid Koletzky, Derrik Nelson, Nik Davis, Danny Rockwell and Nick Martinez. Colin Muth drove in three runs. Adam Goodwillie struck out three batters, gave up six hits and two earned runs in six innings to earn the win.
For Menno, Dylan Lehr and Caleb Preszler each had two hits. Starter Doug Hall struck out one batter, allowed nine hits and seven earned runs in six innings.
The Tappers (11-0) host Crofton, Nebraska, on Friday. Menno (2-10) hosts Wynot, Nebraska, on Thursday.
