Amateur baseball roundup: Tabor defeats Freeman in SCL play

Koch's home run capped a three-hit night that included two runs scored. Pitcher Doug Vanacek carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning and had a two-hit game for Tabor. He struck out eight and allowed one earned run. Logan Tycz's RBI triple in the fifth inning put Tabor up 4-0.
The no-hitter was broken up in the ninth inning with a home run to right field by Black Sox' catcher Brett Scherschligt. Eric Hortness pitched a complete game for Freeman, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and striking out nine.
Freeman had two errors and left six men on base, while Tabor had eight hits, 11 men left on base and no errors.
Tabor (8-5 South Central) hosts Crofton, Nebraska on Thursday, while Freeman (6-7 South Central) plays at Lennox today (Monday) for a non-league game and travels to Wynot, Nebraska on Friday to pick up SCL play.
Platte 4, Corsica-Stickney 3
PLATTE - Phil Vornhagen's two-run double in the eighth inning put Platte ahead for good in order to defeat Sunshine League rival Corsica-Stickney 4-3 in Platte on Sunday.
Hunter Hallock earned the win for the Killer Tomatoes, pitching a complete game and allowing six hits, three earned runs and striking out three.
Corsica-Stickney was led by Aaron Groeneweg, who had three hits and scored two runs. Nathan Blom took the loss for the Horned Frogs, allowing four runs, seven hits and struck out two in seven innings of work. Allen Muilenburg pitched the remainder of the eighth inning for C-S.
Platte (2-9 Sunshine) and Corsica-Stickney (6-9, 4-9 Sunshine) will meet again today (Monday). The game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Corsica.
Parkston Mudcats 4, Dimock-Emery 2
PARKSTON - Three early runs for the Parkston Mudcats were enough to defeat Sunshine League rival Dimock-Emery 4-2 Sunday in Parkston.
Brady Nolz threw a complete-game effort, allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out 11 Raptors and walking nine.
Trevor Freudenthal had a two-hit game and stole two bases for the Mudcats. Matt Malloy doubled twice in the game and drove in a run. Jeff Harris had a 2-for-2 night with a run scored and three walks. Dan Bonte, Zach Scott and Nolz had the other three RBIs in the game.
Phil Johnson took the loss for Dimock-Emery. He allowed 10 hits in eight innings, while allowing four earned runs and picking up seven strikeouts. Sam Pischke had a two-RBI single for Dimock-Emery in the second inning to score both of the Raptors' runs. Nick Tadlock had a double and scored a run, while drawing two walks.
The Mudcats had 10 hits, one error and left 12 runners on base. Dimock-Emery had five hits, two errors and left 10 runners aboard.
Canova 3, Salem 2
CANOVA - A late rally from the visiting Salem Cubs wasn’t enough to knock off Canova on Sunday night, as the Gang secured a 3-2 Cornbelt League victory.
Gavin Gassman had 14 strikeouts and allowed four hits in the complete game victory. The two runs scored by the Cubs were unearned. In the ninth, Chad Hunt singled in a run and Josh Cleveland scored on the next play with after a Canova fielding error. But Gassman secured the victory with two more strikeouts.
Tucker Gassman had a three-hit night for the Gang and Garrett Gassman had two hits in the win. Tim Gassman had the lone RBI for Canova in the seventh inning. Jeremy Zens scored on an error in the third inning and Garrett Gassman scored in the fourth inning on a passed ball to build a 2-0 lead.
Garrison Collier took the loss for Salem, allowing 12 hits, three runs (one earned) and striking out 11 batters. Canova outhit Salem, 12-4.
Canova (16-2, 10-1 Cornbelt) will play at Colman on Thursday. Salem (5-5-1, 5-5 Cornbelt) is at Dell Rapids PBR on Thursday.
Plankinton 9, Pierre 4
PIERRE - Billy Hamilton's 4-for-4 game at the plate helped the Plankinton Bankers pick up a 9-4 win at Pierre on Friday night.
Hamilton drove in a pair of runs and scored two runs in the game. Travis Gant had a double and an RBI and Trevor Salmonson had a two-hit game. Chris Hill scored two runs for Plankinton.
Gant picked up the win, throwing seven innings, allowing nine hits, two runs (one earned) and striking out six. Hill closed the door for Plankinton, throwing the final two innings, allowing two hits and two runs.
Plankinton scored six runs in the first three innings and had 12 hits in the game in all. Pierre had 11 hits.
Plankinton (7-10, 6-5 Pony Hills) plays host to South Central on Thursday. Pierre (2-6 South Central) will host Miller on Tuesday.
