Amateur baseball roundup: Plankinton Bankers collect 15 hits in win over Plankinton Gold Sox

The Plankinton Bankers blanked the Plankinton Gold Sox, 9-0, in their Pony Hills League finales on Tuesday.

PLANKINTON -- The Plankinton Bankers blanked the Plankinton Gold Sox, 9-0, in their Pony Hills League finales on Tuesday.

The Bankers collected 15 hits and erupted for six runs in the eighth inning to put the game away. Chris Hill had a team-high three hits and drove in a run.

Sheldon Gant, Cole Knippling, Josh Engquist, Jon Beckman and Preston Kristensen had two hits apiece. Gant, Travis Gant and Engquist each drove in two runs apiece. Trevor Boyd added a hit.

Travis Gant earned the win. He struck out seven batters, allowed no hits and no runs in his four-inning start. Kristensen and Josh Geppert combined to throw five scoreless relief innings. Kristensen struck out three batters, while Geppert fanned four batters and gave up one hit.

For the Gold Sox, Andrew Becker and Ryland DeVries each had a hit. Mehlhaff took the loss. He allowed seven hits, one earned run and struck out three batters in six innings. Landon Bruinsma gave up nine hits, eight earned runs and walked five batters in two relief innings.

The Bankers (15-1 Pony Hills League) plays Chamberlain or Wessington Springs at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the District 3B tourney at Four Corners. The Gold Sox (4-12 Pony Hills League) play South Central at noon Saturday in the district tournament at Four Corners.

Kimball/White Lake 12, Miller/Wessington 1

MILLER -- Brian Zeman and Dylanger Pierson both smacked home runs as Kimball/White Lake topped Miller/Wessington in Pony Hills League action on Tuesday.

Zeman hit a three-run homer, while Pierson cracked a two-run shot. Pierson, Trent Wookey, Ethan Gaulke and Joe Hieb each had two hits. Wes Kroupa, Caden Lenz and Dylan Konechne each had a hit. Gaulke drove in a pair of runs.

Lenz struck out seven batters, allowed four hits and one earned run in his five-inning start. Zeman pitched two scoreless relief innings.

For Miller/Wessington, Josh Koeck had a team-high two hits. Jay Winter, James White and Dalton Vis each had a hit. Kyle Johnson took the loss. He allowed 11 hits, nine earned runs, struck out one batter and walked four in his five-inning start.

Kimball/White Lake (15-1 Pony Hills League) plays Miller/Wessington (4-12 Pony Hills League) at 10 a.m. Saturday in the district opener at Four Corners.
