Amateur baseball roundup: Kimball/White Lake scores 3 runs in final inning to rally past Mount Vernon

Winning pitcher Zak Wallner finished with 11 strikeouts, issued three walks, allowed zero runs and zero hits in five innings of relief.


MOUNT VERNON -- Kimball/White Lake scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to earn a 10-9 non-league amateur baseball win over Mount Vernon on Tuesday.

Winning pitcher Zak Wallner finished with 11 strikeouts, issued three walks, allowed zero runs and zero hits in five innings of relief.

The Nationals finished with 10 hits, including two apiece from Wallner, Brian Zeman and Trent Wookey. Caden Lenz, Wes Kroupa, Dylanger Pierson and Joe Hieb each had a hit.

The Mustangs recorded 12 hits, including two each from Deric Denning, Eric Giblin, Koby Larson, Cameron Deinert and Luke Tiesler. Spencer Neugebauer and Chase Hetland each had a hit. Denning, Giblin and Tiesler each drove in two runs. Koby Larson was tagged with the loss. He allowed three runs, struck out four batters and zero runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Alexandria 9, Salem 8

ALEXANDRIA -- Tyson Gau scored on a passed ball in the bottom of eighth inning to lift Alexandria to a non-league amateur baseball victory over Salem on Tuesday.


The Angels, the defending Class B state champs, finished with 12 hits in the season opener. Cole Wenande paced Alexandria with three hits, while Peyton Smith, Gau, Adam Durfee and Matt Wilber each had two hits. Smith drove in three runs. Chris Marek added a hit.

Wyatt Kayser earned the win after pitching 3 2/3 innings of relief. He struck out five batters, allowed one hit and one earned run.

Gau started the first three innings, striking out eight batters, allowing one hit and one run.

For Salem, Isaac Anderson, Jackson Sadler, Jacob Vanberge, Steve Mehlbrech, Peyton Cleveland and Felix Rodriguez each had a hit. Sadler logged three RBIs and Vanberge drove in two runs.

Winner/Colome 13, South Central 4

WINNER -- Winner/Colome racked up 15 hits en route to a non-league amateur baseball win over South Central on Tuesday.

Derek Graesser (3 hits), Austin Calhoon (3 hits, 2 RBIs), Reed Harter (3 RBIs), Zach Harter (2 hits, 2 RBIs) and J.J. Farner (solo home run) paced Winner/Colome’s offense. Dillon Lambley, Austin Richey, Jad Bruun and Brendan Kamerzell each added a hit.

Farner earned the win after striking out four batters, giving up three hits and zero runs in two innings.

For South Central, Paul Taggart finished with three of the team’s nine hits. Jaden Frank finished with two hits, while Aaron Vomacka, Aaron Sundquist, Andy McCance and Grant Thomas each had a hit.


Dimock-Emery 14, Menno 4 (7 innings)

EMERY -- Seven players accounted for a hit in Dimock-Emery’s non-league amateur baseball win over Menno on Tuesday.

Peyton Nash, Phil Johnson and Sam Pischke logged two hits apiece. Pischke drove in three runs, while Jason Schmidt knocked in two runs. Gene Kitchens, Doug Sudbeck and Carter Dye each had a hit.

Ben Wermers earned the win for the Raptors. He scattered seven hits, allowed two earned runs and struck out four batters in six innings.
