PLANKINTON-Four Corners exploded for five runs in the eighth inning and took down Plankinton 5-0 on the road Thursday in Pony Hills League action.

The inning was highlighted by Justin Allen's two-run single. Kris Dozark, who went 2-for-4, had the game's only other RBI. Brad Hand hit 3-for-4 and Jason Overweg went 2-for-3 at the plate. Allen and Andy McCloud had Four Corners' other hits. On the mound, Adam Kaus threw seven shutout innings, allowing five hits. He struck out five batters. JD Farley only allowed one hit in the final 1 2/3 innings.

Trevor Salmonson had two of Plankinton's six hits. Orric Earl, Trevor Boyd, Tom Harris and Kyle Bruinsma each had a hit. Travis Gant earned the loss, giving up five runs (one earned) and eight hits over 7 2/3 innings. He struck out nine batters.

Four Corners hosts South Central on Sunday. Plankinton (2-3, 1-1 Pony Hills League) Kimball/White Lake on Sunday.

Alexandria 6, Mount Vernon 2


ALEXANDRIA-Tyson Gau and Chris Marek each drove in a pair of runs to help Alexandria top Mount Vernon in a Sunshine League contest Thursday.

Gau led the team, going 3-for-5, while Marek, Pierce Smith and John Greicar each added a pair of hits. Trever Vermeulen's complete game effort earned him the win for Alexandria. He gave up two runs, despite only allowing one hit, while striking out 15.

For Mount Vernon, Cameron Deinert recorded its only hit. Owen London lasted six innings on the mound, giving up four runs (three earned), eight hits and three walks. After Luke Tiesler pitched a shutout inning, Deric Denning allowed two runs in his only inning.

Alexandria (6-0, 4-0 Sunshine) hosts Dimock-Emery on Saturday. Mount Vernon (2-4, 1-3 Sunshine) hosts Winner-Colome on Sunday.

Corsica-Stickney 9, Wagner 2

CORSICA-Leading 2-1, Corsica-Stickney broke through for six runs in the fifth inning for a Sunshine League victory over Wagner Thursday.

Dylanger Pierson had a home run for the Horned Frogs, while Kris Menning and Jared Hermanek each had two-hit, two-RBI games. Nathan Blom had three RBIs and a double. Aaron Groeneweg went the distance on the mound, allowing seven hits, two runs and striking out 10.

For Wagner, Drue Soukup and and Alex Kocer each had two hits, with Soukup adding a home run. He took the loss, throwing 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and seven runs (two earned).


Corsica-Stickney (4-1, 2-1 Sunshine) will play at Parkston on Sunday. Wagner (0-3, 0-3 Sunshine) heads to Platte on Sunday.

Winner-Colome 14, Platte 4

WINNER-Powered by 14 hits, Winner-Colome scored four runs in the first two innings before a huge seven-run fifth inning, defeating Platte in a shortened, seven-inning Sunshine League game.

Derek Graesser went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs and RBIs, and Tarell Bauld went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs for the Pheasants. Reed Harter, Austin Richy and Geno Katz each had two hits, as well. Austin Calhoon hit the game's only home run. Connor Hopkins pitched seven innings, striking out 11 baters to earn the win. He allowed four runs (three earned), 11 hits, and walked eight batters.

Platte was effective at the plate, but six errors hurt the Killer Tomatoes. Richard Sternberg had a game-high four hits, while Riley Hoffman chipped in with two hits of his own. Sternberg was also the starting pitcher. Winner-Colome scored 12 runs (nine earned) on 13 hits and three walks over five innings against Sternberg.

Winner-Colome (4-1, 2-1 Sunshine) travels to Mount Vernon on Sunday. Platte (2-2, 2-1 Sunshine) hosts Wagner on Sunday.

Parkston 12, Dimock-Emery 5

EMERY-Parkston scored seven runs in the first two innings to pull away for a Sunshine League win at rival Dimock-Emery Thursday.


Brady Nolz threw the complete game, scattering 10 hits but striking out 11 and allowing five runs (four earned). Will Lutjen was 4-for-4, including three doubles and three RBIs, while Dan Bonte knocked in four runs at the plate. Jeff Harris and Tyler Nolz each had two hits for the Mudcats, while Harris scored three times. James Boehmer drove in two runs and had a triple.

Phil Johnson had a home run and two RBIs for the Raptors, while Doug Sudbeck was 4-for-5 for Dimock-Emery, which committed four errors.

Parkston (5-4, 2-1 Sunshine) will play Harrisburg today in Sioux Falls. Dimock-Emery plays at Alexandria on Saturday.
