CHAMBERLAIN — Josh Engquist’s complete-game, four-hit performance led the Plankinton Bankers to a 7-1 win over the Kimball/White Lake Nationals and a District 3B amateur tournament title.
Engquist fanned four and only allowed four hits and one unearned run on his 90 pitches. The Bankers got on the board in the bottom of the third when Engquist delivered a two-RBI double to right field. He then came around to score on a single from Trevor Salmonson later in the frame.
The Bankers added two more to their lead in the fourth, and then one more in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding lead.
The Nationals fought back a little late, plating one in the bottom of the ninth on a wild pitch with two outs to avoid the shutout, but that was all they mustered.
Brian Zeman pitched for Kimball/White Lake and suffered the loss, giving up 11 hits, seven runs and four earned runs across his six innings. He also finished 1-for-4 at the plate and scored the lone National run. Travis Gant, Alex Loes and Salmonson all picked up multiple hits on the contest for the Bankers.
