MOUNT VERNON -- Cameron Deinert’s two-run home run in the sixth inning pushed Mount Vernon past Alexandria 7-6 in Sunshine League play Thursday.
The Angels took an early 2-1 lead, but a two-run blast by Brady Albrecht in the fourth inning put the Mustangs in front. Alexandria (4-1) briefly regained the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth, before Deinert went deep.
Deinert went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Mount Vernon (6-1), while Brady Albrecht was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Eric Giblin was 2-for-4. Baley Miller, Bradley Dean and Deric Denning combined to allow five earned runs on 10 hits and struck out 12.
Tyson Gau went 2-for-5 with two RBIs for the Angels, while Peyton Smith was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Jed Schmidt was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Gau allowed four earned runs on six hits and struck out seven in six innings.
The Mustangs host the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Alexandria hosts Platte at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Plankinton 12, Colome 4
PLANKINTON -- Plankinton scored six runs in the fifth inning to pull away from Colome in Pony Hills League play Thursday.
Sheldon Gant had a perfect 5-for-5 night for the Bankers, driving in three runs. He also had five strikeouts in two innings of relief on the mound. Trevor Salmonson and Josh Enquist both drove in two runs, while Cole Knippling and Travis Gant each had two hits and an RBI.
Travis Gant also allowed two earned runs on two hits and struck out seven in seven innings for Plankinton (3-0).
Ben Connot and Terrance Kinzer both had RBIs for the Chaos. Carter Brickman allowed five earned runs on 10 hits and four walks for Colome, which fell to 2-3.
The Bankers face Kimball/White Lake at 8 p.m. June 10 in Kimball. The Chaos hosts Kimball/White Lake at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Dimock/Emery 6, Parkston 5
EMERY -- Dimock/Emery scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to surge past Parkston in Sunshine League action.
Spencer Freudenthal launched a two-run home run in the seventh to put the Mudcats up 4-2, but the Raptors capitalized on two errors and RBIs by Drew Kitchens and Phil Johnson.
Johnson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run for Dimock/Emery (4-2), while Sam Pischke allowed four earned runs on nine hits and five walks, striking out four in seven innings.
Freudenthal was 2-for-4 on the day for Parkston (1-7), while Jeff Harris was 3-for-5 and Billy Hamilton went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jake Weber did not allow an earned run on seven hits and struck out five in seven innings.
The Raptors play Winner/Colome at 5 p.m. Sunday in Emery. The Mudcats play Corsica-Stickney at 5 p.m. Sunday in Corsica.
Four Corners 16, Miller/Wessington 6
MILLER -- Andrew McCloud’s three-run blast in the third inning gave Four Corners a lead it would not relinquish against Miller/Wessington in Pony Hills League action.
McCloud went 3-for-4 with four RBIs for Four Corners (3-1), while Brad Hand wnet 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Nathan Hainy also drove in three runs and J.D. Farley had two RBIs.
Rafael Clemente had a two-run home run for the Outlaws and Dustin Harvey went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Three Miller/Wessington (0-4) pitchers combined to allow 15 earned runs on 13 hits and six walks, while striking out eight.
The Outlaws travel to Chamberlain at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Yankton 4, Tabor 3
YANKTON -- A fielder’s choice by Nik Davis in the seventh inning allowed Yankton to nip Tabor in South Central League action Thursday.
The play resulted in one of three RBIs on the day for Davis, while Derrik Nelson and Colin Muth had two hits apiece for the Tappers. Cooper Davis allowed two earned runs on four hits and five walks over six innings of work. Three Yankton (4-0) pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts.
Bryce Scieszinski knocked in a run for the Blue Birds (1-3), while Zach Cuka allowed four earned runs on eight hits and four walks over six innings.
