Amateur baseball roundup: Balanced offense carries Angels over Raptors

ALEXANDRIA--Ten different players recorded a hit as the Alexandria Angels downed the Dimock-Emery Raptors 12-2 in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Saturday.

ALEXANDRIA-Ten different players recorded a hit as the Alexandria Angels downed the Dimock-Emery Raptors 12-2 in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Saturday.

John Greicar paced the balanced offensive, going 3-for-3 and knocking in four runs. Tyson Gau, Chris Marek and Pierce Smith each added two hits.

Peyton Smith, Cole Wenande, Jordan Gau, Billy Hamilton, Reid Smith and Mason Mayer each had a hit. Smith finished with three RBIs, while Tyson Gau, Jordan Gau and Marek each had an RBI.

Tyson Gau picked up the win, striking out five batters, scattering nine hits and allowing two earned runs.

For Dimock-Emery, Jason Schmidt went 3-for-4 and drove in a run. Jared Schmidt, Gene Kitchens, Doug Sudbeck, Tucker Kingsbury, Josh Schmidt and Jamin Arend all had hits.


Alexandria (7-0, 5-0 Sunshine League) plays Winner/Colome at 8 p.m. Thursday in Winner. Dimock-Emery plays at Freeman on Tuesday.

Platte 6, Wagner 4

PLATTE-The Wagner Rockets out-hit the Platte Killer Tomatoes 10-5, but Platte used a five-run inning to take the Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Trailing 3-1, Platte plated five runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game. For the Killer Tomatoes, Richard Sternberg, Ryan Allen, Brandon Kemp, Cole Nachtigal and Michael Buitenbos each had a hit. Allen and Nachtigal each drove in a run. Buitenbos took the win, striking out five batters, gave up four runs (three earned) and gave up 10 hits.

For Wagner, Drue Soukup went 3-for-4 and Logan Mudder had two doubles. Austin Loes added two hits, while Derek Soukup, Hunter Hewitt and Ben Soukup each had a hit. Loes took the loss. He gave up two hits, three runs (two earned), struck out one batter and issued five walks in three innings.

Platte (3-2, 3-1 Sunshine) plays at Parkston on Thursday. Wagner (0-4, 0-4 Sunshine) plays at Dimock-Emery on Thursday in Dimock.

Parkston 8, Corsica-Stickney 6

PARKSTON-In a Sunshine League amateur baseball game, the Parkston Mudcats scored two runs in the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie and eked out a win over the Corsica-Stickney Horned Frogs.


In the eighth inning, Jesse Grosdidier had an RBI groundout and Dan Bonte had an RBI single to put the Mudcats ahead. In the top of the ninth, Corsica-Stickney went down in order against Parkston pitcher Brady Nolz, who earned the win with five strikeouts and no runs allowed in 4 1/3 innings. He gave up one hit. Nolz also had two doubles and two RBIs.

Also offensively, Will Lutjen had a solo home run and Jake Weber had two hits and two RBIs. Matt Malloy had two hits, while Pat Harris and Sterling Kinneberg each had a hit apiece.

For Corsica-Stickney, Luke Bamberg and Aaron Groeneweg each launched home runs. Bamberg's three-run homer put Corsica-Stickney ahead 6-5 in the fifth. Jared Hermanack had three hits, while Kris Menning and Nathan Blom each had a hit. Blom had an RBI. Menning took the loss. He allowed two hits and two earned runs in one inning.

Parkston (7-4, 3-1 Sunshine) hosts Platte on Thursday. Corsica-Stickney (4-2, 2-2 Sunshine) hosts Mount Vernon on Friday.

Winner/Colome 10, Mount Vernon 0

MOUNT VERNON-The Winner/Colome Pheasants defeated the Mount Vernon Mustangs in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Zach Harter finished 3-for-5, drove in four runs and belted a home run. Drew DeMers had two RBIs. Lakin Neugebauer, Reed Harter, Austin Calhoon, Geno Katz and Terrell Bauld each had a hit. Kelly O'Bryan earned the win for the Pheasants. He gave up two hits and struck out nine batters.

For Mount Vernon, Deric Denning and Tate Deinert each had a hit. Luke Tiesler took the loss. He allowed 11 hits, nine runs (five earned) and struck out four batters.


Winner/Colome (5-1, 3-1 Sunshine) hosts the Alexandria Angels on Thursday. Mount Vernon (2-5, 1-4 Sunshine) plays at Corsica-Stickney on Friday.

Plankinton 20, Kimball/White Lake 4

PLANKINTON-The Plankinton Bankers erupted for 17 runs in two innings and it defeated the Kimball/White Lake Nationals in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Plankinton blasted three home runs, with Josh Geppert, Trevor Salmonson and Tyler Waddle each going yard. Waddle finished 3-for-4 and knocked in six runs. Travis Gant had a 2-for-4 day and drove in four runs. Salmonson went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Geppert and Kyle Bruinsma each had two RBIs. Deion Waddle, Trevor Boyd and Josh Engquist each had an RBI.

Engquist earned the win, scattering three hits, giving up four runs and striking out nine batters.

For Kimball/White Lake, Trent Wookey, Hayden Thiry and Coledon Eimers each had a hit. Thiry took the loss. He gave up six hits, nine runs (two earned) and struck out one batter in one inning.

Plankinton (3-3, 2-1 Pony Hills League) plays at Chamberlain on Thursday. Kimball/White Lake hosts South Central on Thursday.

Yankton 10, Scotland 6

YANKTON-Cooper Davis mowed down 11 batters as the Yankton Tappers defeated the Scotland Highlanders in a South Central League amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Davis only gave up three hits, three earned runs and walked two batters in six innings. Mason Townsend, Mike Heine and Alex Mueller each drove in two runs.

For Scotland, Jason Vaith and Joe Kronaizl each drove in two runs. Kronaizl had two hits, while Wyatt Adam, Vaith, Dan Jansen and Tanner Skorepa each had a hit. Adam drove in a run and he also took the loss. He gave up 11 hits, 10 runs (seven earned) and struck out two batters.

Scotland plays at Wynot, Nebraska, on June 10.

Chamberlain 6, Miller 5

MILLER-The Chamberlain Mallards edged the Miller Outlaws in a Pony Hills amateur baseball game on Sunday.

Zach Zimprich earned the win for Chamberlain, going the distance. No other information was reported.

Chamberlain (1-2) hosts Plankinton on Thursday. Miller hosts Four Corners on Thursday.
