Amateur baseball roundup: Alexandria wins non-league game to stay perfect

ALEXANDRIA -- Chris Marek's complete-game effort helped Alexandria blank the Redfield Pheasants during a non-league game Sunday in Alexandria. The Angels won 5-0 in a scheduled seven-inning game.

ALEXANDRIA - Chris Marek's complete-game effort helped Alexandria blank the Redfield Pheasants during a non-league game Sunday in Alexandria. The Angels won 5-0 in a scheduled seven-inning game.

Marek allowed two hits, no runs and had six strikeouts. On offense, Cory Marek was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Pierce Smith and Jordan Gau were both 1-for-2 with an RBI.

For the Pheasants, Elliot Millar was the losing pitcher, tossing six innings, allowing five runs, and striking out five.

Alexandria (12-0) continues non-league play Tuesday at home against the Sioux Falls Squirrels.

Winner-Colome 6, Corsica-Stickney 3

CORSICA - A four-run opening inning helped Winner-Colome to a Sunshine League victory Sunday over Corsica-Stickney 6-3 in Corsica.

J.J. Farner picked up the complete game victory, scattering six hits, allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out 12. Dillon Lambley had a 3-for-4 game, knocking in three runs and scoring a run. Geno Katz scored three runs for the Pheasants.

Luke Bamberg took the loss, throwing seven innings, allowing eight hits, five runs (two earned) and striking out nine. Adam Fink was 3-for-4 in the loss and Aaron Groeneweg was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The Pheasants outhit the Horned Frogs, 9-6, while Corsica-Stickney had five errors.

Winner-Colome (11-1, 8-1 Sunshine) plays at Pierre on Wednesday. Corsica-Stickney (5-6, 4-6 Sunshine) hosts Kimball/White Lake at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Mount Vernon 7, Mitchell Mad Dogs 5

MOUNT VERNON - Mount Vernon rallied from a 4-0 deficit to defeat the Mitchell Mad Dogs Sunday in a Sunshine League contest 7-5.

The Mad Dogs carried a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning when the Mustangs stormed back with five runs. Mitchell re-tied the game in the seventh at 5-5 before Nick Honke's single scored Chase Hetland for the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning.

Matt Larson picked up the victory in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings, striking out four. Owen Larson pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs, striking out eight.

Honke, Eric Giblin, Jeff Sand and Seth Cavanaugh each had two hits for the Mustangs, with Honke and Tate Deinert each knocking two runs. Hetland and Deric Denning scored two runs apiece.

For the Mad Dogs, Tanner Swets had two hits and two runs scored. Adam Everson, Zack Custer and Casey Hofer each two hits, as well. Swets was the losing pitcher for the Mad Dogs, allowing two hits and one earned run in relief, striking out four.

Mount Vernon (8-6, 5-5 Sunshine) hosts Alexandria in Sunshine League play on Thursday. Mitchell (3-8, 1-8 Sunshine) plays the Parkston Mudcats on Thursday in Parkston.

Parkston Mudcats 7, Menno 4

PARKSTON - The Parkston Mudcats won a non-league contest Sunday over Menno, winning 7-4 over the Mad Frogs.

Matt Malloy had a 2-for-3 game with three runs scored and two RBIs. Ty Kinneberg was 2-for-4 and Zach Scott scored two runs. Brady Nolz drove in two runs at the plate.

Dillon Stadlman was the winning pitcher, logging eight innings, allowing four runs (two earned), striking out two.

Menno was held to four hits for the game. Dylan Lehr drove in two runs and had two hits.

The Mudcats (10-5) host the Mitchell Mad Dogs at 8 p.m. Thursday. Menno heads back to South Central League play on Thursday at Yankton.

Plankinton 12, Armour 7

ARMOUR - Eleven runs in the ninth inning helped the Plankinton Bankers pull out a Pony Hills League victory Sunday night in Armour.

Armour led 4-1 heading to the ninth inning but the Bankers used walks, hit batters, an error and five hits to score 11 runs to flip the game.

Chris Hill finished 3-for-6, with two runs scored and two RBIs. Travis Gant was 2-for-4 and Kyle Bruinsma drove in two runs. Hill grabbed the victory in relief, throwing two innings, allowing three runs and striking out two.

Drue Soukup led the Jayhawks, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run and scoring four runs. Armour had 17 hits in the game, with Cam Hinckley, Mick Hanan and Jesse Baier all adding three hits.

Plankinton (6-8, 5-3 Pony Hills) hosts Miller on Thursday. Armour (3-4 Pony Hills) plays at Chamberlain on Thursday.

Kimball/White Lake 10, Miller 2

MILLER - Spencer Lucas threw a complete game to lead Kimball/White Lake to a road Pony Hills League win at Miller 10-2.

The Nationals scored in six of the nine innings and were led by Trent Wookie's three-RBI performance. Anthony Williams drove in two runs, along with Lucas and Tony Poncia driving in a pair each.

Lucas allowed eight hits, two earned runs and struck out eight in the victory.

KWL (7-1) hosts South Central on Thursday.
