ABERDEEN -- The Mitchell High School volleyball team’s season came to a close on Thursday, as Aberdeen Central topped the Kernels in four sets in Class AA SoDak 16 action. Set scores were 25-14, 21-25, 25-5 and 25-12.

After dropping the first set, the Kernels cut down on their errors to battle back and tie the match.

“We expected them to do that. We never ever felt their effort (lacked),” Kernel coach Deb Thill said. “We had a lot of really nice plays and passed the ball really well.”

Mitchell’s errors started to mount and didn’t have the same sharpness on serve-receive in the final two sets.

Cameryn Logan paced the Kernels with 16 digs and 10 kills. Katy Sebert added 20 digs and three aces. Kaspen Alm also put down 10 kills for the Kernels.

“We knew we’d have to cut down a lot of errors to beat a really good Aberdeen Central team,” Thill said. “We did. Our effort was good. (Aberdeen) played great. They made a lot of scramble plays. There was a couple of people getting kills we didn’t expect, so they put together a pretty good match against us.”
