PARKSTON-Platte scored four runs in the second inning and never looked back to register a 6-2 Sunshine League win against Parkston on Sunday in amateur baseball play.
Michael Buitenbos delivered a two-run single to put the first two runs on the board for the Killer Tomatoes and Riley Hoffman plated two more runs on a triple during the ensuing at-bat.
Payton Foxley also pitched in a pair of RBIs, while Buitenbos limited the Mudcats to two runs on seven hits across nine innings and six strikeouts.
Dylan Mogck and Brady Albrecht drove in the Parkston runs. Cody Freudenthal allowed four earned runs on six hits in five innings, to go along with five strikeouts.
Platte (3-3) hosts Wagner on Thursday. Parkston (6-4) travels to Sioux Falls to battle the Brewers on Tuesday.
Tabor 6, Yankton 5
TABOR-After Yankton tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the eighth inning, Tabor tacked on two runs on a single by Sam Caba to regain the lead in the bottom of the frame and held on for a South Central League win.
The Tappers had the bases loaded with two outs and had just scored on a walk, but Hunter Hallock forced a pop fly to right field to end the game.
Collin Muth went 3-for-5, wile Hallock and Chris Sutera had two hits apiece for the Bluebirds. Bryce Scieszinski earned the win after giving up two earned runs on eight hits and six walks in seven innings, while striking out 12 batters.
Mount Vernon 5, Winner/Colome 2
MOUNT VERNON-Eric Giblin went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to help lead Mount Vernon to a win to hand Winner/Colome its first Sunshine League loss of the season.
After Derek Graesser hit a home run during the opening at-bat for Winner/Colome, Deric Denning came back to hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning and Giblin stepped to the plate and ripped a line drive to left for another RBI double on the next at-bat to give the Mustangs a 3-1 lead.
The Pheasants had the game-tying run at the plate with two outs in the ninth, but Denning was able to fan Tarell Bauld to secure the win. Denning picked up the win without allowing a run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings of relief.
JJ Farner allowed four earned runs on nine hits in six innings for Winner/Colome in defeat. Chandler Bakley drove in the other run for the Pheasants.
Mount Vernon (8-1) faces Dimock-Emery at home on Thursday. Winner/Colome (3-1) hosts Corsica-Stickney on Thursday in Winner.
Dimock-Emery 9, Wagner 3
WAGNER-Gene Kitchens collected three hits and drove in three runs to lead Dimock-Emery to a road win over Wagner on Sunday in Sunshine League action.
Kitchens went 3-for-4 as the Raptors plated runs in six out of nine innings. Meanwhile, Phil Johnson shut down the Rockets, surrendering three runs on four hits, while finning 16 to get the complete-game win.
Jared Schmidt, Jason Schmidt and Colton Plagmann each tallied RBIs for Dimock-Emery.
Grant Lang had a solo home run for Wagner, while David Kocer and Ben Soukup had RBIs. Soukup took the loss, allowing one earned run (four unearned) on two hits and three walks in four innings and added four strikeouts.
Dimock-Emery (9-2) travels to Mount Vernon on Thursday. Wagner hosts Platte on Thursday.
Alexandria 11, Corsica-Stickney 2
CORSICA-A seven-run second inning propelled Alexandria to a Sunshine League win over Corsica-Stickney on Sunday.
Logan Risse put the Horned Frogs on the board first with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning, but Peyton Smith connected on a three-run blast and Tyson Gau hit a two-run home run two batters later for the Angels.
Matt Wilber also added two RBIs on a 2-for-4 outing, while Cole Wenande was 3-for-6 and Cris Marek and Mason Mayer both went 2-for-4.
Jordan Gau gave up 11 hits in nine innings, but only allowed one earned run and struck out seven batters.
Risse and Steven Blom led the Horned Frogs by going 3-for-4 and an RBI apiece. Nathan Blom gave up six earned runs on seven hits and five walks in five innings.
Alexandria (4-4) plays Winner/Colome on Tuesday in Winner. Corsica-Stickney (1-5) plays Winner/Colome on Thursday in Winner.
Plankinton 8, Miller/Wessington 3
MILLER-Plankinton scored all eight of its runs in the first three innings to beat the Outlaws on Sunday in Pony Hills League amateur baseball action.
Alex Loes launched a ball to left field for a lead-off home run as part of a 4-for-5, four-RBI day for the Bankers. Tyler Waddle, Travis Gant and Trevor Boyd collected two hits apiece, while Waddle, Boyd, Chris Hill and Kyle Bruinsma had RBIs.
Gant also earned the win on the mound, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine batters.
Plankinton (6-1) hosts Yankton on Thursday.
