BELLE FOURCHE-Blasius Steffen picked up a pair of top-three finishes at the SDHSRA state finals.

The Gregory native finished second in the tiedown and third in reined cow horse in the state finals that ran from Wednesday to Friday. Steffen was nine points behind Hermosa's Tanner Fite in the tiedown and he finished with 75 points in reined cow horse, 10 points behind Humblodt's Reece Ullerich for the lead. He qualified for nationals in both events.

Winner's Dawson Phillips was fourth and Colome's Saydee Heath was sixth in reined cow horse.

Colome's Riley Shippy placed third in bull riding with 53.50 points to advance to nationals and Riggin Shippy was eighth eighth with 29 points. Fellow Colome native Linkyn Petersek also qualified for nationals by finishing fourth in steer wrestling with 53 points, while Platte's Beau Dean (46 points) and Burke's Finn Hanson (45 points) were sixth and seventh, respectively.

The NHSRA is set to be held June 23-29 in Huron.

National qualifiers include: Riley Shippy (bull riding), Winner's Brandon Volmer (boys cutting), Blasius Steffen (tiedown and reined cow horse), Dawson Phillips (reined cow horse), Linkyn Petersek ( steer wrestling) and Mitchell's Ryan Bergeson (trap shooting).
