The Augustana University baseball team won its second straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship on Sunday with a 13-8 win over Minot State. The Vikings also clinched the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II Central Region for the NCAA D-II tournament.

Mitchell native Jed Schmidt has tossed 27 2/3 innings for the Vikings this season, compiling a 4-2 record and a 4.23 ERA. The sophomore also has 27 strikeouts, including at least four in five of his 11 outings. He last pitched against Upper Iowa on May 4 when he struck out a batter in 2/3 innings of relief.

Augustana, which won the national championship last season, hosts No. 8 seed Oklahoma Baptist at 7 p.m. today.

Misiaszek throws shutout in national tourney

Former Mitchell High School standout Hallie Misiaszek pitched in all three NAIA national tournament games for the Morningside College softball team. The Mustangs were knocked out after being defeated twice by Olivet Nazarene University (4-2 and 5-0), but did beat Friends University, 4-0.

Misiaszek nearly went the distance in all three of her starts, totaling 19 of 20 possible innings. She allowed nine runs (seven earned), including a complete-game shutout against Friends in which she struck out 10 batters. The junior struck out 13 batters total over the three games.

She finished the season 23-6 in 33 appearances (31 starts) with a 1.45 ERA and 132 strikeouts over 193 1/3 innings. Opponents only hit .205 against her as she was named to the all-GPAC first team for the second straight season.

Sebern places top 10 at Summit championships

South Dakota State University runner Allison Sebern competed in two events at the Summit League track and field outdoor championships on Friday in Macomb, Illinois.

The Burke native fell one place and 0.57 seconds short of making the finals in the 400-meter run. Her time of 59.74 seconds placed the junior ninth in the prelims. She was also part of SDSU's 4x400 relay team, which took third. They finished in 3 minutes, 48.5 seconds, with Sebern running the first leg for the Jackrabbits.

Sebern placed fifth in the 400 meters (59.06) at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on May 3-4 and was part of the winning 4x400 relay team (3:57.59).
