Catching up with former area athletes: Koepsell capitalizes on playing time
Former McCook Central/Montrose standout Morgan Koepsell made the most of her playing time with Black Hills State University last week, helping the Yellow Jackets split a pair of games.
Despite only playing four minutes, she made both of her shot attempts for seven points, to go along with two rebounds and two steals, in a 59-48 win over Western State Colorado University on Jan. 4. Koepsell added another seven points in seven minutes in a 72-48 loss to Colorado Mesa University on Jan. 5.
The freshman has appeared in 10 games this season, recording 34 points and 10 rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets play Colorado Christian University at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Neises wins another match
Bailey Neises, a Howard native and Augustana University wrestler, added another match to the win column on Jan. 3.
He took down Northern State University's Billy Holtan, 2-0, at 165 pounds to improve to 9-5 on the season. His win gave the Vikings a 15-6 lead in the dual, though it couldn't hang on, falling 21-13.
Augustana wrestles Minnesota State Moorhead at 7 p.m. on Jan. 17.
Campbell keeps pulling down rebounds
Former Hanson High School standout Jada Campbell continued her productive role off the bench for Presentation College.
In a 77-74 win over Dakota State University on Jan. 4, Campbell had six points, 10 rebounds and a block. She followed it with eight points, 13 boards and a pair of blocks in a 69-55 loss to Bellevue University on Jan. 5.
Campbell leads the team with 23 blocks this season, while also ranking third in rebounds per game (6.5). She averages 6.4 points per contest, as well.
The Saints play Viterbo University at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
