Marlin girls drop high-scoring game
SIOUX FALLS—The Mitchell Marlins girls hockey team's third-period comeback fell short as it dropped a 6-5 game to the Sioux Falls Flyers on Sunday at the Scheels IcePlex.
Kelsey Amick scored the game's first goal less than two minutes in to give Mitchell a 1-0 lead. After a Sioux Falls (2-1) goal, Ashley Jones and Brooke Jarman both scored to help the Marlins lead 3-2 after a period.
However, the Marlins conceded four straight goals between the second and third periods, falling behind 6-3. Jenna Grosdidier and Jones both netted goals in the third, but the comeback fell short.
The Flyers had six more shots than the Marlins, while it went 1-for-3 on power plays and held Mitchell to 0-for-3.
The Marlins (2-2) play at Huron at noon on Saturday.
