SIOUX FALLS-The first trip to the state volleyball tournament did not start as planned for Ethan High School.
The Rustlers dropped their first two matches, resulting in a spot in the Class B seventh-place match against Kimball/White Lake on Saturday at the Premier Center.
After squeaking out a nip and tuck first set, Ethan was able to prevail against the WiLdKats for its first state tournament win in school history, 26-24, 25-18 and 25-23.
Cameryn Logan had a big match, recording 15 kills and two blocks, to earn a spot on the Class B all-tournament team.
Jessica Bartscher handed out 38 assists and came up with 13 digs, while Jada Plastow added nine kills and 15 digs and Mollie Miiller pitched in eight kills and 14 digs. Karly Gustafson also had eight kills, two blocks and two aces, while Maddie Miiller had a team-high 16 digs.
Kennedy Leiferman recorded a match-high 16 kills and eight digs and Grace Konechne added seven kills and nine digs. Darby Deffenbaugh also had a match-high 27 digs for Kimball/White Lake (22-10).
Ethan finishes the season 28-8.
