State volleyball roundup: Washington advances to Class AA title match

SIOUX FALLS—Sioux Falls Washington swept cross-town rival Sioux Falls O'Gorman to advance to the Class AA state championship match. The set scores were 25-11, 25-19 and 25-18.

Sioux Falls Washington (30-5): Lily Bartling and Samiya Jami each put down 10 kills for the Warriors. Peyton Rymerson finished with 11 digs. Aspen Langley added 30 assists. Sioux Falls Washington plays Rapid City Stevens at 8 p.m. tonight in the Class AA title match.

Sioux Falls O'Gorman (28-6): Emma Ronsiek led O'Gorman with 10 kills and seven digs. Raegan Reilly added eight kills and eight digs. Jaime Renshaw added 14 digs and Bergen Reilly recorded 14 assists. O'Gorman plays Watertown at 12:30 p.m. today in the third-place match.

Rapid City Stevens 3, Watertown 1

SIOUX FALLS—Rapid City Stevens knocked off Watertown in the Class AA semifinals on Friday at the Premier Center. The set scores were 25-20, 31-29, 27-29 and 25-16.

Rapid City Stevens (33-1): Kyah Watson led Stevens with 16 kills and 10 digs. Elizabeth Schaefer added 13 kills and 14 digs. Carly Buehner added 13 kills. Marlee Schneider dished out 51 assists. Stevens plays Washington at 8 p.m. today in the title tilt.

Watertown (22-7): Mariah Gloe led the Arrows with 12 kills and 14 digs. Sophie Tietz recorded 11 kills and Meghan Heggelund put down 10 kills. Annie Norberg finished with 20 assists. Watertown plays O'Gorman at 12:30 p.m. today in the third-place match.

Brookings 3, Huron 0

SIOUX FALLS—No. 8 Brookings used a pair of two-point victories to close out No. 5 Huron in the Class AA state volleyball tournament consolation semifinals on Friday, 25-17, 29-27 and 26-24.

Brookings (16-14): The Bobcats got a huge game from setter Michaela Jewett. The setter stuffed the state sheet with 33 assists, 21 digs and 10 kills. Regan Weisbeck also had 12 klls and Kailee Bartels added 10. Miranda Ysbrand had a team-high 23 digs. Brookings faces Mitchell in the fifth-place match at 10:45 a.m.

Huron (17-9): Alaina Dale led the Tigers with 15 kills and seven digs and Hollee Niehus had 13 kills and 14 digs in defeat. Tenley Buddenhagen pitched in 30 assists and 10 digs, while Havyn Heinz had a match-high 28 digs. Huron plays Sioux Falls Roosevelt in the seventh-place match at 9 a.m.

Miller 3, Elk Point-Jefferson 1

SIOUX FALLS—Miller dropped the first set, but the Rustlers took the next three against Elk Point-Jefferson on Friday at the Class A state volleyball tournament. The set scores were 20-25, 25-18, 25-10 and 25-17.

Miller (30-2): Kadye Fernholz led the Rustlers with 25 kills and 12 digs. Madison Wetz finished with 26 digs and five kills. VonnaGail Schlechter added 21 digs. Elise Brooks put down seven kills. Rachel Oligmueller dished out 43 assists and added 16 digs. Miller plays Sioux Falls Christian at 6 p.m. today in the Class A title match.

Elk Point-Jefferson (29-6): Carlie Corder finished with 13 kills, while Kenna Curry added eight kills. Meghan Brewer finished with 24 digs and Ally Nearman finished with 18 digs. Karly Marx dished out 28 assists. EPJ plays McCook Central/Montrose at 12:30 p.m. in the third-place match.

Parker 3, Aberdeen Roncalli 1

SIOUX FALLS—After a dominant first set by No. 6 Parker, No. 7 Aberdeen Roncalli rallied to take the second, but the Pheasants managed to regroup to pull out the final two in a four-set win in the Class A consolation semifinals on Friday, 25-8, 19-25, 25-23 and 25-20.

Parker (27-8): Grace Leberman notched 15 kills and 22 digs in the win, while Hannah Even dished out 39 assists and came up with 12 digs. Raelin Jurgens also added eight kills and five assists for Parker, which faces Winner in the fifth-place match at 10:45 a.m.

Aberdeen Roncalli (22-7): Jami Ewart had 12 kills and 11 digs in the loss, while Mariah Winegar had a team-high 13 kills for the Cavaliers. Hannah Kuck pitched in 12 kills. Aberdeen Roncalli plays No. 8 Rapid City Christian in the seventh-place match at 9 a.m.

Northwestern 3, Faith 0

SIOUX FALLS—Northwestern punched its ticket into the championship match on Friday with a win over Faith in the Class B semifinals. The Wildcats swept Faith 25-16, 25-18 and 25-22.

Northwestern (37-2): Riley Grandpre led the Wildcats with 15 kills, while Caitlyn Fischbach added 12 kills. Sydney Schell put down nine kills. Madalyn Groft added 14 digs, seven kills and 35 assists. Tya Weideman finished with 14 digs. Northwestern plays Warner at 4 p.m. today in the championship match.

Faith (30-2): Mikenzy Miller led the Longhorns with nine kills. Syndie Schauer dished out 20 assists and added nine digs. Faith will play Chester Area at 12:30 p.m. today in the third-place match.

Warner 3, Chester Area 1

SIOUX FALLS—Warner secured a berth in the Class B state championship match with a four-set victory over Chester Area on Friday. Set scores were 25-20, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-23.

Warner (35-2): Laurie Rogers put down 26 kills and added eight digs. Ashley Fischbach added 19 kills and 24 digs. Laura Ochsner finished with 42 digs, while Sydney Leidholt had 23 digs. Payton Fisher recorded 54 assists. Warner plays Northwestern at 4 p.m. today in the championship match.

Chester Area (26-6): Jadon Wages led Chester Area with 19 kills and 19 digs. Hanna Reiff added 49 digs. Hailey Ewoldt had 42 assists. Chester Area plays Faith at 12:30 p.m. today in the third-place match.
