SoDak 16 Volleyball Roundup: Kimball/White Lake outlasts Kadoka Area

FORT PIERRE—Kimball/White Lake edged Kadoka Area in a five-set marathon match and punched its ticket to the state tournament on Tuesday. The WiLdKats won the SoDak 16 match 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 17-25 and 15-6.

Kimball/White Lake (22-7): Kennedy Leiferman and Grace Konechne powered KWL in the win. Leiferman finished with 21 kills, four blocks and three aces. Konechne logged 23 kills, three aces and four blocks. Darby Deffenbaugh recorded 53 digs and Heather Munsen posted 51 assists. Kimball/White Lake is the No. 8 seed and it plays No. 1 Northwestern in the first round of the state tournament on Nov. 15 in Sioux Falls.

Kadoka Area (28-4): No stats reported.

Burke 3, Philip 1

FORT PIERRE—Burke punched its second straight trip to the State B volleyball tournament on Tuesday. The Cougars defeated Philip 17-25, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-17 in a SoDak 16 match.

Burke (29-7): Taylee Indahl powered the Cougars with 17 kills, five aces and four blocks. Lahna Matucha added 13 kills and 13 digs. Bobbi Jo Wischmann recorded seven digs and 30 assists. Lainee Schonebaum posted 19 digs and three aces. Sierra Swan added three blocks and six kills. The Cougars will be the No. 7 seed and will play No. 2 Warner in the first round of the state tournament on Nov. 15 in Sioux Falls.

Warner 3, Freeman 0

WATERTOWN—Freeman fell to powerhouse Warner in a SoDak 16 qualifying match on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-6, 25-13 and 25-12.

Warner (33-2): Ashley Fischbach and Laurie Rogers both recorded 12 kills apiece. Sydney Leidholt added 10 kills, eight digs and five aces. Laura Oschner finished with seven digs and two aces. Peyton Fisher had 30 assists.

Freeman (22-8): Dayna Roth had six kills, while Emily Miller posted four kills. Roth added 12 digs, while Miller had two blocks and 1 ace. Rijjy Peterson and Jaimie Glanzer both had 21 digs apiece. Peterson had six blocks. Josie Fuhrmann logged nine assists.

Faith 3, Bridgewater-Emery 2

WALL—Faith edged Bridgewater-Emery in a five-set marathon match on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 25-17 and 17-15 of the SoDak 16 match.

Bridgewater-Emery (22-7): Sydney Hoffman and Julia Weber finished with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Katelyn Kotas added 18 digs and seven kills. Kerrigan Schultz recorded 26 assists, 10 digs and two aces. Sophia Potter added 16 assists, 11 digs and three aces. Joslyn Schrank finished with 25 digs.

Winner 3, Pine Ridge 0

WALL—Winner secured a berth in the State A volleyball tournament with a three-set sweep over Pine Ridge in a SoDak 16 match. Set scores were 25-9, 25-7 and 25-9.

Winner (26-3): Morgan Hammerbeck had 17 kills and eight digs for the Warriors. Maggie LaCompte had seven aces and five digs. Abby Marts recorded seven kills and one block assist. Mackenzie Levi posted 16 assists and one block assist, while Addy Root recorded 11 assists. Ellie Brozik added five aces.

Miller 3, Chamberlain 0

HURON—Miller swept Chamberlain and advanced to the state tournament in a SoDak 16 match on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-6, 25-4 and 25-8.

Chamberlain (13-17): Hannah Anderson had three kills, while Makenzy Mutziger finished with three assists. Hannah Anderson added two blocks and Avany Long finished with five digs.
