Area volleyball roundup: Wagner slips past Burke again

WAGNER—Wagner topped Burke for the second time in three days on Monday. After defeating the Cougars in the Southeast South Dakota Tournament on Saturday, the Red Raiders did it again on Monday. Set scores were 25-17, 18-25, 25-16 and 25-20.

Wagner (26-4): Abby Brunsing powered Wagner with 18 kills and 15 digs. Faith Tyler posted 17 kills and 26 digs, while Lizzie Tyler recorded 19 digs and 24 assists. Kirstyn Roth recorded 16 digs. Maesa Dvorak finished with seven kills, four blocks and three aces. It was the final match of the regular season for Wagner.

Burke (25-7): Taylee Indahl paced the Cougars with 18 kills, 10 digs and four aces. Sierra Swan posted nine kills and three blocks. Lainee Schonebaum posted 22 digs and Bobbi Jo Wischmann recorded 24 assists. Lahna Matucha added five aces, six kills and eight digs. The Cougars host Lyman today to end the regular season.

Canistota 3, Freeman 2

CANISTOTA—Canistota outlasted Freeman in a five set marathon volleyball match on Monday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-20, 8-25, 26-28 and 15-11.

Canistota (21-7): Hannah Parry led the Hawks with 32 assists, 19 digs, four aces and one kill. Harley Cormany added 10 digs, four kills, two assists and one ace. Jordan Engbrecht finished with 18 digs, 14 kills and four blocks. Mikenzie Kirby posted nine kills, eight digs and two blocks. Noelle Hofer finished with 12 digs, 10 kills and three blocks. Cassidy Keller finished with 18 digs. It was the final match of the regular season for Canistota.

Freeman (19-7): Emily Miller paced the Flyers with 15 kills and 11 digs. Hannah Eberts added 13 kills, three digs and two blocks. Josie Fuhrmann added 33 assists and 15 digs. Caitlyn Gronewold recorded 34 digs. Dayna Roth finished with 21 digs, five kills and two aces. The Flyers play Alcester-Hudson today in Alcester for the final match of the regular season.

Gregory 3, AC/DC 2

NEW HOLLAND—Gregory edged Andes Central/Dakota Christian in a prep volleyball match on Monday. Set scores were 26-24, 23-25, 25-20, 23-25 and 16-14.

Gregory (15-12): Megan Warnke posted 36 digs, 13 kills, three aces and two blocks. JessyJo VanDerWerff recorded 19 digs and 10 kills. Addy Nelson finished with 10 kills. Sydney Svatos added 21 assists, 18 digs and three aces. Brooklyn VanDerWerff added 24 assists and 18 digs. It was the final match of the regular season for Gregory.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (19-11): Brianna Deurmier led AC/DC with 45 assists and 18 digs. Tyra Medicine Horn finished with 33 digs, 10 kills, five blocks and two assists. Isabel Pheifer added 24 digs and 18 kills. Mackenzie Muckey had 23 digs and 15 kills. It was the final match of the regular season for AC/DC.

Ethan 3, TDA 0

TRIPP—Class B No. 5 Ethan swept Tripp-Delmont/Armour in a high school volleyball match on Monday. Set scores were 25-16, 25-17 and 25-16.

Ethan (24-5): Karly Gustafson led the Rustlers with eight digs, five aces and four kills. Mollie Miiller finished with nine digs, eight kills and three aces. Jessica Bartscher posted 25 assists, four digs, three kills and two aecs. Maddie Miiller had 10 digs, while Regan Gerlach added eight digs. Cameryn Logan finished with six digs, four kills and three blocks. Bella Nesheim registered 11 kills, seven digs and five aces. The Rustlers play Platte-Geddes today in Platte to complete the regular season.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (5-21): Mattilynn Reiner led the Nighthawks with six kills and two digs. Kianna Payer added five digs, two kills and one block. Hannah Whitney added five digs, while Bailey Spaans had seven assists and two digs. It was the final match of the regular season for TDA.

MCM 3, Hanson 0

SALEM—Class A No. 3 McCook Central/Montrose swept Hanson in straight sets in a prep volleyball match on Monday. Set scores were 25-6, 25-18 and 25-16.

MCM (22-3): Emiley Bies led MCM with 31 assists, eight digs and four aces. Kenna Kranz posted eight kills. Abigail Van Ruler recorded seven kills, while Aleah Ries finished with nine kills, 10 digs and two aces. Jacy Pulse posted eight digs, five kills and two aces. Cassy Knudsen had nine digs. It was the final match of the regular season for MCM.

Hanson (12-15): Megan Guericke finished with 13 digs for the Beavers. Morgan Huber added five digs and one kills. Josie Bartscher contributed four kills, while Hannah Robinson had eight digs. Morgan Huber recorded five digs. It was the final match of the regular season for Hanson.

Howard 3, Iroquois 0

HOWARD—Howard picked up a prep volleyball sweep over Iroquois on Monday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-10 and 25-10.

Howard (3-15): Austyn Smit led Howard with 20 kills, five digs and four aces. Aleya Kizer posted 10 kills. Emma Rudebusch finished with 20 assists and seven aces. Mia Glanzer added six assists, while Madison Kizer had two blocks. The Tigers close out the regular season at home against Irene-Wakonda today.

Iroquois (0-27): Kaitlyn Maas finished with 15 digs, three blocks and two kills. Hannah Hofhenke posted five assists and Niah Rogers had 16 digs. It was the regular season finale for Iroquois.

KWL 3, Colome 0

KIMBALL—Kennedy Leiferman stuffed the stat sheet as she powered Kimball/White Lake to a prep volleyball sweep over Colome on Monday. Set scores were 25-6, 25-20 and 25-23.

Kimball/White Lake (19-7): Leiferman finished with 10 kills, eight digs, six aces and three blocks. Grace Konechne added nine kills and 10 digs. Darby Deffenbaugh recorded 22 digs and three kills, while Heather Munsen dished out 33 assists. It was the final match of the regular season for the WiLdKats.

Colome (12-17): Haley Krumpus paced the Cowgirls with seven kills and eight digs. Makayla Shippy logged 16 assists, four digs and three aces. Saydee Heath finished with nine digs, three kills and two blocks. Kaydee Heath added 14 digs, three kills, one ace and one block. The Cowgirls host Corsica-Stickney on Tuesday in the final match of the regular season.

Menno 3, Scotland 1

MENNO—Menno topped Scotland in a prep volleyball match on Monday as both teams ended the regular season. Set scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-22.

Menno (11-14): Kiara Nusz led the Wolves with 16 kills and 13 digs, while Eisley Sayler pitched in 11 kills and 13 digs. Jaedyn Oplinger also handed out 20 assists, came up with 24 digs and recorded three kills and Tess Oplinger dished out 17 assists and had 22 digs.

Scotland (7-19): Kennedy Bietz led the Highlanders with 37 digs, 10 kills and three aces in defeat. Delanie Van Driel also had 10 digs, nine kills and four blocks and Rylee Conrad had a match-high 32 assists and 10 digs.

Winner 3, Platte-Geddes 1

WINNER—Class A No. 4 Winner topped Platte-Geddes in a prep volleyball match on Monday. Set scores were 25-21, 11-25, 25-17 and 25-13.

Winner (24-3): Morgan Hammerbeck and Ellie Brozik finished with 13 kills apiece. Hammerbeck added three blocks and one ace. Brozik also had an ace. Gracie Littau finished with 20 digs and 17 assists. Maggie LaCompte had 15 digs and one ace, while Kalla Bertram had three blocks and one ace. It was the final match of the regular season for the Warriors.

Platte-Geddes (12-17): Tori Weins finished with 15 kills, four blocks and three aces. Sawyer Naasz posted 10 kills and two aces. Courtney Neuman dished out 24 assists and added 10 digs. Regan Hoffman had 24 digs, while Reagan Stegmeier had 10 digs. The Black Panthers host Ethan today in Platte to finish the regular season.

Parkston 3, Madison 0

PARKSTON—Madison swept Parkston in straight sets in a high school volleyball match on Monday. Set scores were 25-17, 25-17 and 25-23.

Madison (21-9): Sophia VandenBosch led the Bulldogs with 12 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Kendra Leighton added 13 digs and seven kills. Grace Nelson posted 18 assists, nine digs and six kills. Morgan Hansen added 16 assists, three digs and two kills. It was the final match of the regular season for Madison.

Parkston (8-21): Amber Albrecht carried Parkston with 12 digs and seven kills. Izzy Hohn dished out 25 assists and added two aces. Brenna Walz finished with eight digs, two kills and one block. Tiah Holzbauer recorded 12 digs and nine kills. Ellie Wiedenbach logged 11 digs and three aces. It was the final match of the regular season for Parkston.

Wessington Springs 3, Hitchcock-Tulare 1

WESSINGTON SPRINGS—Wessington Springs clipped Hitchcock-Tulare in a prep volleyball match on Monday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-16, 18-25 and 27-25.

Wessington Springs (14-13): Maddie Neely led the Spartans with 22 digs, eight kills and six aces. Chasity Vissia finished with 26 assists. Grace Gran put down eight kills and had one block. Sierra Burg finished with 49 digs. It was the final match of the regular season for Wessington Springs.

Hitchcock-Tulare (14-15): Dawsyn Otto recorded 11 kills, while Kenidee Enander had 21 digs and 26 assists. Elizabeth Salmen recorded 19 digs. It was the final match of the regular season for Hitchcock-Tulare.
