The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak on Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex with a 3-0 win over Mount Marty in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.
Marina Brightman scored her first of two goals on the night just three minutes into the game and Alyssa Weidler scored just before halftime to give the Tigers a commanding 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
DWU controlled the play throughout the game, outshooting Mount Marty (1-8, 0-6 GPAC), 13-3, and Brightman tacked on another goal in the 75th minute to cement the win.
Cristal Villalvazo notched a three-save shutout for Dakota Wesleyan (4-8, 2-5 GPAC), which travels to Concordia on Saturday.
DWU men play to draw with Mount Marty
The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer hosted Mount Marty in the nightcap on Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex and the game ended without a winner. After 110 minutes of soccer, the two teams played to a 1-1 tie.
Mount Marty scored nearly 16 minutes into the game, but DWU was able to tie on a goal by John Sutherland in the 63rd minute that would count as the only two goals of the night.
The Tigers outshot Mount Marty 12-5, but weren't able to beat Lancer goalkeeper Gabriel Ivlev, who made 11 saves.
The game was a chippy one, as Mount Marty (2-5-2, 0-3-2 GPAC) was given three yellow cards in overtime and six for the game, while DWU's Rene Montiel was given a red card.
Gaston Miteff made four saves for Dakota Wesleyan (4-7-1, 1-4-1 GPAC) travels to Concordia on Saturday.
