Cheerleading teams from around the area gathered at the Corn Palace on Saturday for the Mitchell Cheer and Dance Invite. Nine cheerleading squads and four dance teams battled it out for the grand championship.

Sioux Valley was crowned champions of the cheer division with a score of 230.5, which topped second-place Huron's 192.5. Platte-Geddes followed in third place, with 179 points, while Yankton and Parkston-which edged Wagner by six points-rounded out the top five. Mitchell finished in eighth place with 160 points.

Meanwhile, Huron took home the dance championship with 246.33 points after winning the jazz and hip hop categories and taking second in the pom. Yankton finished in second place, followed by Mitchell in third with 226.5 points, due in part to a second-place finish in the hip hop category. Platte-Geddes placed fourth in the dance division.
