SIOUX FALLS-The Mitchell High School volleyball team endured its second sweep in as many matches on Thursday as the No. 5 Kernels fell to No. 1 Sioux Falls O'Gorman 25-15, 25-16 and 25-20 in a prep volleyball match.

Mitchell (11-5) was done in by the aggressive serving from the Knights and also unforced errors hampered the Kernels. O'Gorman finished with 13 aces.

"O'Gorman was serving some bullets," Thill said. "But I thought our kids plays better (Thursday) than they did on Tuesday."

O'Gorman, which was powered by 6-foot-1 junior Emma Ronsiek's 14 kills, built comfortable leads in each of the first two sets. The Knights controlled the final set, but Mitchell whittled the deficit to 22-19. However, it could not get any closer as O'Gorman pulled away for the sweep.

"We did go on a nice run there," Thill said. "But you have to hand it to O'Gorman. They are really good. Right now they are better than we are, but we just have to keep working hard and improve parts our game as we go."

Carly Haring put down six kills and had two blocks. Earlier in the week, Haring became the school record holder in career blocks. She now has 243 in her career. She broke the previous record set by Nancy Ommen (1991-95) with 240.

Mackenzie Miller, Chelsea Brewster and Sage Jorgensen each had four kills. Bridget Thill recorded eight digs and Brewster added seven digs. Mandy Schmidt dished out 15 assists, while Payton Morgan registered three blocks.

The Kernels will get a full week off before their next match. Mitchell will host Rapid City Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12.
