Kimball/White Lake girls take second at DeSmet Invite
DE SMET—The Kingsbury County Country Club was the host of nine boys and seven girls cross-country teams on Thursday for the DeSmet Invitational.
Sioux Valley ran away with the boys team competition with 18 points, with Dell Rapids St. Mary coming in second with 31. Lyman took fourth place with a score of 45, which was six behind Webster Area and six ahead of Elkton-Lake Benton.
Lake Preston sophomore Rhett McMasters cruised to victory in the boys race, besting second-place Jacob Vogel of St. Mary by more than 33 seconds.
Lyman's Brad Lebeda placed third with a time of 18:10, while teammate Brenden Estes finished 20th and Bryce Muirhead was 27th.
The girls teams needed a tiebreaker to determine a champion after Webster Area and Kimball/White Lake each finished with 21 points. Webster Area was crowned champion after having lower total times and average times.
Howard took third with 38 points, while Colman-Egan and Deuel each had 39 to round out the top five.
Cameron Streff, of Chester Area, was the individual champion with a time of 20:26.40, which was 14 seconds ahead of Kenzie Hamann, of Deuel. Kimball/White Lake's Christine Gaulke placed sixth, while teammates Sidney McCord and Madison Heath finished eighth and 14th, respectively.
