Area volleyball roundup: Bridgewater-Emery sweeps Howard

EMERY—Bridgewater-Emery picked up its first win of the season with a prep volleyball sweep against Howard on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-19, 25-12 and 25-22.

Bridgewater-Emery (1-1): Sydney Hoffman put down 10 kills, while Kennedee Weber added seven kills for the Huskies. Sophia Potter dished out 14 assists. Kerrigan Schultz added 12 assists and had two aces. Joslyn Schrank and Katelyn Kotas finished with 11 digs and nine digs, respectively. Haley Schulz had five blocks. Bridgewater-Emery hosts Wessington Springs on Thursday in Emery.

Howard (1-3): Madison Kizer led the Tigers with six kills, two blocks and two aces. Kyra Shumaker added nine digs and three aces. Emma Rudebusch had seven assists. Howard hosts Freeman on Thursday.

McCook Central/Montrose 3, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 0

SALEM—McCook Central/Montrose never allowed Mount Vernon/Plankinton to reach 20 points in a set on Monday. Set scores were 25-19, 25-19, 25-19.

McCook Central/Montrose (4-2): Emily Bies and Aleah Ries both had two aces, while Bies also added 27 assists. Ries added 13 digs and six kills. Cassy Knudsen finished with a team-high 15 assists for the Fighting Cougars. McKenna Kranz recorded 13 digs and 10 kills. McCook Central/Montrose plays at Chester Area on Tuesday.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (0-2): Reagan Klooz paved the way with 11 digs, seven assists and an ace for the Titans. Katlyn Briggs had six kills and four blocks, while Hailey Walz added 10 digs and five assists. Mount Vernon/Plankinton plays Corsica-Stickney in Corsica on Thursday.
