Misiaszek smashes three homers in four games at Rapid City

RAPID CITY—Mitchell returned to the softball field after a tough season-opening doubleheader, this time for a four-game set in Rapid City on Friday and Saturday, with two games apiece against Rapid City Central and Rapid City Stevens.

The Kernels dropped all four outings during the trip, but they managed to improve with each game played.

After a rough first night that saw Central top Mitchell, 20-4 and then to Stevens, 14-4, the Kernels bounced back for a pair of respectable scores on Saturday.

"We want to make sure we come back to Mitchell better than when we went out and I think we accomplished that," Mitchell head coach Jim Misiaszek said. "We executed much better on Saturday than we did on Friday. We didn't get a lot of hits, but we also didn't strike out a lot. I'm very encouraged by our group and our seniors tried to step up."

On Saturday, the Kernels started the day by slicing the deficit to Stevens in half, this time only losing 9-4. The final game of the weekend proved to be the team's best, as Mitchell bounced back from its first loss to Central by losing an 8-6 affair.

Sidson again went 2 for 3 as the Kernels scored six runs on five hits. Misiaszek carried some big lumber all weekend, notching three home runs, all coming against Central. She hit two in the first game and another in the second.

"She's a known quantity in the state with what she can do with the bat," Jim Misiaszek said of his daughter. "Some teams just decide they're going to pitch around her. Most of these teams know our team makeup—how young we are—so that option's all gonna be there."

Up next for Mitchell (0-6) is a home game against Sioux Falls Washington tonight at Cadwell Sports Complex, starting at 6 p.m.
