PIERRE-Peyton Garbers walk-off grand slam gave Renner Post 307 a 12-11 win over Sioux Falls East Post 15 on Wednesday, pushing it into the winner's bracket of the Class A Legion baseball state tournament.

Garbers' grand slam was his second hit of the day. Quentin Evers hit Renner's first home run, a sixth-inning three-run shot over the left field wall. Nick Hoekstra had two hits. Sam Breit earned the win, allowing three runs (two earned) over two innings.

For Sioux Falls, Alex Fuhs went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Nick Kemper, Austin Ruhland and Jake Smith all had two hits and an RBI. Tanner Olmstead suffered the loss as he gave up four unearned runs in 2/3 innings.

Renner (33-14) takes on Pierre at 7 p.m. today. Sioux Falls East (35-28) faces off against Yankton at 12:30 p.m. in an elimination game.

Rapid City Post 22 12, Brookings 1

PIERRE-Rapid City Post 22 pounded out 14 hits and downed Brookings in six innings in the opening round of the Class A Legion state tournament on Wednesday.

Connor King powered Post 22 with a grand slam and a triple. Jack Sorensen finished with two hits and three RBIs. Matthew Hegre and Alex Weaver finished with two hits apiece, while Jace Caldwell, Zach Sumption and Mason Messinger each had a hit. Messinger drove in two runs. Dylan Richey picked up the win, giving up four hits, one earned run and striking out three batters in 4 1/3 innings.

Rhett Zelinsky led Brookings with two hits. Brady Ammann and Justin Devine each had a hit apiece. Jameson Meyer took the loss after allowing 13 hits, 11 runs (eight earned) and striking out two batters in 5 2/3 innings.

Rapid City Post 22 (51-10) plays Mitchell at 4:30 p.m. today. Brookings (10-21) takes on Brandon Valley at 10 a.m. in an elimination game.

Pierre Post 8 12, Yankton Post 12 2

PIERRE-Pierre Post 8 used a five-run sixth inning and 12 hits to get by Yankton Post 12 on Wednesday to start the Class A Legion baseball state tournament.

Mike Lusk recorded four hits for Pierre, and Maguire Raske had two hits. Grey Zabel and Raske led the team with three RBIs, while Matt Lusk and Carson Tschetter both had two RBIs. Peyton Zabel struck out 10 batters on his way to the win. He walked seven, allowed two hits and two earned runs over a five-inning start.

For Yankton, Ethan Wishon went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Kieren Luellman suffered the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) in 3 1/3 innings.

Pierre (24-20) plays Renner at 7 p.m. today. Yankton (17-25) takes on Sioux Falls East at 12:30 p.m. in an elimination game.

Junior Legion

Watertown 7, Sioux Falls West 5

Watertown held off Sioux Falls West's late comeback to start the Class A junior Legion baseball state tournament on a high note on Wednesday at Cadwell Park.

Watertown used a five-run first inning to get ahead early and secure the win. Jared Fransen had three hits, while Mason Evans and Peyton Johnson both finished with a pair of hits for Watertown. Fransen also earned the win, allowing five runs (two earned) and striking out five in a complete-game effort.

Keaton Hartman took the loss for Sioux Falls. He gave up five earned runs in 2/3 innings. Jordan Miller had two hits.

Watertown plays Mitchell at 7:30 p.m. today. Sioux Falls West takes on Harrisburg at 1:30 p.m. today in an elimination game.

Rapid City Post 320 6, Renner Post 307 1

The Rapid City Post 320 Shooters used a five-run fourth inning to advance past Renner Post 307 in the Class A junior Legion baseball state tournament on Wednesday at Cadwell Park.

Dalton Klosterman paced Post 320 with two hits and two RBIs, while J.T. Kostenbauer and Riley Larson both had two hits and one RBI apiece. Tate Walker, Cody Winter, Mitch Sand and Orion Brenden each had a hit. Sand earned the win. He gave up four hits, allowed one earned run and fanned three batters in 5 2/3 innings.

For Post 307, Andy Moen had two hits. Mason Runia and Sam Stukel each had a hit, while Zakk Evers had an RBI. Chase Merrill was tagged with the loss. He gave up nine hits and six runs (five earned) in 3 1/3 innings.

Rapid City Post 22 4, Brandon Valley 2

Backed by a strong start from Isaac Arnold, Rapid City Post 22 downed Brandon Valley at Cadwell Park on Wednesday in the Class A junior Legion baseball state tournament.

Arnold gave up two earned runs and five hits in a five-inning start. At the plate, Blake Weaver and Dave Julius both had two hits. True Synhorst led Post 22 with three hits as Rapid City outhit Brandon Valley 9-6.

For Brandon Valley, Parker Reed accounted for three of its hits. On the mound, Dylan Deilke gave up four runs (two earned) and nine hits in his start.

Rapid City Post 22 faces Rapid City Post 320 at 5 p.m. today. Brandon Valley takes on Renner at 11 a.m. today in an elimination game.
