Amateur baseball roundup: Kimball/White Lake tops Plankinton
PLANKINTON—Jordan Hanten's two doubles and four RBIs led Kimball/White Lake to a 15-5 amateur baseball win over Plankinton on Sunday in Pony Hills League action.
For Kimball/White Lake, Hanten finished with three hits, including a two-RBI double in the fifth. Wes Kroupa went 4-for-6 with a pair of RBIs, Trent Wookey had four hits and Ryan Smith finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Javan Holan drove in a pair of runs, as well. Ryan Smith's complete game earned him the win as he struck out six and gave up five runs (three earned).
Josh Geppert suffered the loss for Plankinton, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on five hits and five walks. Plankinton finished with 11 hits, including two-hit games from Travis Gant, Kyle Bruinsma, Ryan Urban and Geppert.
Kimball/White Lake (4-6 Pony Hills) hosts South Central in White Lake on Thursday. Plankinton (9-4 Pony Hills) travels to Chamberlain on Thursday.
Chamberlain 5, Miller 3
MILLER—Chamberlain scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat Miller in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball game on Sunday.
For Chamberlain, Zach Zimprich went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including an RBI single in the eighth. Mike Schwartz tossed a complete game, striking out nine batters and allowing three earned runs on nine hits and four walks.
Casey Schlechter gave up five runs (three earned) and struck out six in his complete-game effort for Miller. Juan Sabilier had two hits, while Dustin Harvey drove in a pair of runs.
Chamberlain (5-7 Pony Hills) hosts Plankinton on Thursday. Miller (6-7 Pony Hills) hosts Plankinton on Sunday.
Winner/Colome 5, Wagner 2
WAGNER— Winner/Colome was powered by Zach Harter's three-run home run in an amateur baseball win over Wagner in Sunshine League action.
J.J. Farner fanned nine batters in his six-inning start for Winner/Colome, while allowing an earned run and four hits. Kelly O'Bryan and Reed Harter both had two hits.
For Wagner, Drew Soukup gave up four runs and six hits over four innings. Austin Loes pitched the final five innings. Hunter Hewitt led Wagner at the plate with his two-hit game and RBI.
Winner/Colome (16-2, 12-2 Sunshine League) hosts Corsica/Stickney in Winner on Thursday. Wagner travels to Mount Vernon on Thursday.

CORSICA—Dimock/Emery scored seven runs in the final two innings to top Corsica/Stickney in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Sunday.
Jason Schmidt's two-run home run in the ninth highlighted Dimock/Emery's comeback. He finished 2-for-3, while Jared Schmidt went 2-for-6 with a home run and three RBIs. Phil Johnson had two hits and three RBIs. Gene Kitchens, Jed Schmidt and Doug Sudbeck all had a pair of hits. Jason Schmidt also earned the win as he struck out seven and allowed nine runs (eight earned) in a complete-game effort.
For Corsica/Stickney, Aaron Groeneweg had a team-high three hits, including two home runs and four RBIs. Luke Bamberg and Jared Hermanek each hit a home run, too. Logan Risse and Ryan Buck both had two hits. On the mound, Risse took the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) over five relief innings. He also fanned five batters.
Dimock/Emery (12-9, 7-6 Sunshine League) hosts Platte in Emery on Thursday. Corsica/Stickney (8-7, 6-7 Sunshine League) travels to Winner to play Winner/Colome on Thursday.
Parkston 12, Mount Vernon 2
PARKSTON—Parkston used 13 hits to get by Mount Vernon in eight innings during a Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Sunday.
Brady Nolz, Sterling Kinneberg and Spencer Lucas, who also had four RBIs, all finished with three hits. Jake Weber threw all eight innings for Parkston, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk. He also struck out six batters.
For Mount Vernon, Chase Hetland and Tate Deinert each had two hits. Jason Spicer had the Mustangs only RBI of the game. Owen London suffered the loss as he allowed six runs (two earned) during his 1 2/3-inning start.
Parkston (10-12-1, 5-9 Sunshine League) hosts Alexandria on Thursday. Mount Vernon (4-10, 2-10 Sunshine League) hosts Alexandria tomorrow.
Alexandria 15, Platte 2
PLATTE—Powered by 17 hits, including two doubles, Alexandria took down Platte in seven innings in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Sunday.
Peyton Smith went 4-for-5 with two RBIs for Alexandria, and Cole Wenande finished 2-for-6 with three RBIs. Jordan Gau, Chris Marek, Jerrod Zens and Armando Rodriguez, who also drove in two runs, all had two hits. Gau earned the win as he allowed two earned runs and six hits during his six-inning start.
Brandon Kemp had Platte's only RBI of the game. Platte was held to six hits. Pat Veurink suffered the loss, lasting three innings and giving up eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks.
Alexandria (13-1, 11-1 Sunshine League) travels to Mount Vernon tomorrow. Platte (5-9, 5-7 Sunshine League) travels to Emery to play Dimock/Emery on Thursday.

CANOVA—Canova recorded 14 hits in its amateur baseball win on Sunday in Cornbelt League action.
Mike Newman hit a first-inning grand slam as part of his 4-for-6 day with seven RBIs for Canova. Garrett Gassman and Jared Miller both hit home runs, as well. Tim Gassman went 2-for-6 with three RBIs, while Gavin Gassman, Garrett Gassman and Trey Krier all had two hits. Derek Miller earned the win as he allowed five runs (three earned) and four hits over six innings. He struck out five batters.
For Flandreau, Jake Patterson hit a three-run home run in the third and finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Keith Cutler went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Beau Severtson finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Luke Gassman suffered the loss as he allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on seven hits and eight walks during his four-inning start.
Canova (12-3, 12-1 Cornbelt) travels to Dell Rapids on Thursday.

HAYES—Four Corners scored six runs in the final three innings to top Plankinton in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball game on Saturday.
Brad Hand hit two doubles for Four Corners, including a two-RBI double in the third. Andy McCloud went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and J.D. Farley finished with a pair of hits. Jeremy Hand drove in a pair of runs during his 1-for-3 day. Nate Hainy earned the win as he struck out two and allowed three runs (two earned) over two relief innings.
For Plankinton, Orric Earl and Ryan Urban both had two hits, while Josh Engquist had two RBIs. Tyler Waddle suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs in an inning. Engquist started and gave up six runs (two earned) over seven innings.
