Amateur baseball roundup: Menno tops Scotland

MENNO—Menno used a six-run third inning to pick up a South Central League win over nearby Scotland 15-5 in a seven-inning game shortened by the 10-run rule.

Cody Ulmer had four-RBI game and a double for the Mad Frogs. Ryan Liebl had three hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Dylan Lehr had a pair of doubles and an RBI. Damien Robish each had RBI doubles in the fifth inning, as Menno scored three runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth frame. Tom Sattler picked up the win for Menno, pitching six innings, allowing three hits and striking out four.

Dan Jansen had a two-run single. Ryan Robb and Dalton Baker each knocked in runs in the loss. Paul Ellefson had a double, while Bryan Fuks took the loss for Scotland on the mound. Menno (9-3 South Central) hosts Freeman today. Scotland (0-13 South Central) plays at Crofton, Nebraska on Thursday.

Platte 5, Corsica/Stickney 3

PLATTE—Michael Buitenbos powered the Platte Killer Tomatoes to a Sunshine League amateur baseball victory over the Corsica/Stickney Horned Frogs on Tuesday.

Buitenbos went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in three runs. He also earned the win, striking out 12 batters, scattering seven hits and giving up three earned runs in the complete-game performance.

His two-run double in the third inning gave Platte a 4-2 lead. Richard Sternberg added two hits and two RBIs for Platte. Riley Hoffman, Ryan Allen, Brandon Kemp, Cole Nachtigal, Jarod Severson and Pat Veurink each had a hit in the win.

For Corsica/Stickney, Logan Risse had two singles, a triple and drove in two runs. Luke Bamberg added an RBI single. Aaron Groeneweg, Kris Menning and Nathan Blom each had a hit. Menning took the loss. He allowed 10 hits, five earned runs and struck out four batters.

Platte (5-8, 5-6 Sunshine League) hosts Alexandria on Sunday. Corsica/Stickney (8-6, 6-6 Sunshine League) hosts Dimock/Emery on Sunday in Corsica.

Canova 5, Salem 1

CANOVA—Garrett Gassman belted a three-run homer to lift the Canova Gang to a Cornbelt League win over the Salem Cubs on Tuesday.

Gassman's home run in the third inning gave Canova a 5-0 lead. He also hit a single for the Gang.

Jared Miller finished with two hits, while Tim Gassman, Jason Miller, Mike Newman and Trey Krier each had a hit. Newman had a two-RBI single in the first inning.

Krier pitched the first three inning, striking out three batters, scattering two hits and allowing zero runs. Jason Miller pitched six relief innings, striking out nine batters, giving up six hits and one run (unearned).

For Salem, Craig Cheeseman and Darwin Persson each had two hits. Tyler Earls, Jon Forster, Anthony Tuschen and Tyler Cleveland each had a hit.

Canova (9-3) hosts Colman today.

Winner/Colome 13, South Central 0

GREGORY—Winner/Colome blanked South Central in a non-league amateur baseball game on Wednesday.

No other information was available when this edition went to press. Winner/Colome (15-2) plays at Wagner on Sunday. South Central hosts Miller today.
