Amateur baseball roundup: Wagner outlasts Corsica/Stickney
WAGNER—Logan Mudder, of Wagner, hit a walk-off two-RBI single to cap a five-run ninth inning comeback against Corsica/Stickney 10-9 on Thursday in Sunshine League action.
Derek Soukup tied Mudder for a team-high two RBIs and led the team with three hits. Soukup also earned the win. He struck out seven batters and gave up two earned runs, five hits and three walks in four innings. Dan Bures went 2-for-2 with an RBI and three walks, and Drue Soukup drove in a pair of runs.
Corsica/Stickney outhit Wagner 12-11, led by Aaron Groeneweg's 3-for-5 day at the plate. Jared Hermanek and Nathan Blom each had two hits. Blom struck out 12 batters in his 8 2/3-inning start, allowing nine runs (three earned) on 10 hits and six walks. Logan Risse suffered the loss as he gave up the winning run.
Corsica/Stickney (7-5, 5-5 Sunshine League) hosts Platte on Sunday. Wagner (3-6 Sunshine League) travels to Alexandria on Sunday.
Plankinton 3, South Central 0
GREGORY—Travis Gant struck out 17 batters to power the Plankinton Bankers to a Pony Hills League amateur baseball victory against South Central on Thursday.
Gant gave up just one hit in the complete-game performance. Offensively, Trevor Boyd had two hits and one RBI. Chris hill belted a solo home run, while Gant, Trevor Salmonson, Josh Geppert, Kyle Bruinsma, Tom Harris and Josh Engquist each had a hit.
For South Central, Paul Taggert had the lone hit.
Plankinton (8-3, 7-1 Pony Hills League) hosts Chamberlain on Sunday. South Central (3-7 Pony Hills League) hosts Kimball/White Lake on Sunday.
