WATERTOWN — The Mitchell High School baseball team ended a four-game skid by splitting a doubleheader against the Watertown Arrows on Saturday in Watertown.
Mitchell won the first game 5-0 and fell in the second game 4-2.
In Game 1, Briggs Havlik pitched a complete game shutout against the Arrows. Havlik held Watertown to just four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in seven innings pitched.
At the plate, Jordan Dirkes had a hit and an RBI, while Carter Max had a double and a run scored. Havlik, Austin Kerr, and Jared Miller each also recorded one hit for the Kernels, who finished the game with five hits and one error compared to Watertown's four.
In Game 2, Mitchell led 2-1 after the first two innings, but the Kernels couldn't score the rest of the game and Watertown added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead 3-2 before adding an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Baley Miller took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Peyton Nash went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Kerr added two hits. Havlik had a hit and an RBI and Jared Miller finished with a double as Mitchell left nine runners on base in the loss.
Mitchell (7-11) plays at Huron today at 5:30 p.m.
