Area baseball roundup: Royals edge Honkers

WINNER—Winner/Colome nipped Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake/Corsica-Stickney 1-0 in prep baseball action on Wednesday.

In a game that featured just six total hits, Layton Thieman was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning that plated Nick Lantz from third base for the go-ahead score.

For Winner/Colome, Riley Calhoon, Levi McLanahan and Dalton Baker each had a hit. Jackson Kinzer earned the win, striking out seven batters, scattering three hits and allowing no runs.

For PGDCWLCS, Dylan Mohnen, Cole Nachtigal and Chase Pheifer all had a hit. Pheifer took the loss, giving up three hits, one earned run and striking out one batter.

Canton 10, Hanson/Bridgewater-Emery 3

ALEXANDRIA—Canton erupted for six runs in the second inning and defeated Hanson/Bridgewater-Emery in high school action on Wednesday.

For the Ducks, Craig Lasley went 3-for-4 and drove in one run. Jonah Hofer also had an RBI and a hit. Lasley pitched two innings, scattered five hits, gave up six earned runs and struck out two batters.

West Central 3, McCook Central 1

HUMBOLDT—West Central out-hit McCook Central 8-2 and won the prep baseball contest on Wednesday.

For the Burros, Hunter Matthaei drove in a run. Kyle Tuschen and Dylan Klinkhammer each had a hit for McCook Central.

Klinkhammer took the loss, scattering eight hits, giving up three earned runs and striking out three batters.
