Flahie's triple lifts Madison over Four Corners

Danny Flahie lofted a fly ball into deep left-center field on Wednesday to propel the Madison Broncos to a 6-3 win over Four Corners at the Class B state amateur baseball tournament at Cadwell Park.

In the eighth inning and the score tied at 3-3, Madison loaded the bases with two outs when Flahie smacked a 1-2 pitch from Justin Allen for the bases clearing triple.

Brady Banse then pitched a 1-2-3 inning to secure the win for Madison.

Flahie powered the Broncos by going 2-for-5 and knocking in four runs. In the fifth, Madison took its 3-0 lead when Flahie doubled to left field to score Trevor Johnson from second base.

Trailing 3-0 in the top of the sixth, Four Corners' Nathan Hainy smacked a two-run double to right field to score Mike Schwartz and Brad Hand. Justin Lester later knotted the score with an RBI sac fly to score Hainy from third base.

The team's played a scoreless seventh inning before Flahie's triple sealed it for Madison in the eighth inning.

Nick Bird earned the win for Madison. He gave up one hit and struck out one batter in two innings of relief. Johnson and Justin Miller both added two hits for Madison.

Four Corners' starter Adam Kaus pitched 6 2/3 innings, scattered six hits, allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out four batters. Jeremy Hand took the loss for Four Corners. He pitched 2/3's of an inning and gave up two earned runs.

Hainy and Jeremy Hand both had two hits for Four Corners.

Madison will play Alexandria at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
