ABERDEEN—Corsica-Stickney's boys basketball team closed out its state tournament the way they wished: with a win.

The Jaguars led by as much as 18 points in the third quarter and held off a White River push in the fourth quarter to win 72-57 in the Class B state tournament fifth-place game Saturday at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen.

The Jaguars were led by Cordel Menning's 20 points—including 8-of-9 shooting—and six rebounds in the win. Eli Van Roekel finished the game with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Clayton Menning had 15 points, six rebounds and six assists. The Jaguars finished with a 39-24 advantage in rebounding and held the Tigers to 33 percent shooting.

C-S held a 33-22 lead at halftime—assisting on 11 of their 12 made field goals in the first half—and saw that lead grow to 18 points with 2 minutes, 55 seconds left in the third quarter. But a full-court press put the Jaguars under the gun and White River trimmed the lead to 48-43 with 6:07 left. However, the Jaguars held the line and kept White River at bay to finish out the game and stretched the margin in the final minutes.

White River had three players in double figures, led by Dru Espinoza with 15 points. Justice Morrison and Gunner Piper had 11 points each.

Corsica-Stickney shot 61 percent from the field on 27-of-44 shooting and made 15-of-24 free throws. White River forced 20 turnovers and committed just 11 turnovers.

The Jaguars finish the season at 22-4 and graduate just one senior in Van Roekel. The Tigers wrap up the season at 20-6.
