CANOVA -- Canova ran its winning streak to 12 games with 14-0 amateur baseball win over Parkston on Tuesday. The game was called in the seventh inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Kendall Gassman earned the win, finishing with nine strikeouts and four hits in his 5.2-inning start.
Offensively, Canova received plenty of production from a host of players. Justin Miller recorded two hits and belted a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Jared Miller, Gavin Gassman, Kendall Gassman and Cole Gassman finished with two hits apiece. Tim Gassman drove in three runs, while Kendall Gassman finished with two RBIs. Derek Miller and Trevor Oswald each had a hit.
For Parkston, Jeff Harris, Jake Weber, Brandon Deffenbaugh, James Boehmer, Tyler Nolz and Billy Hamilton each recorded a hit. Dillon Stadlman took the loss. He allowed 12 hits, 11 runs (seven earned) and struck out four batters in 5.1 innings of work.
Canova (18-2) hosts the Humboldt/Hartford Woodducks on Thursday. Parkston (13-11) plays at Platte on Thursday.
Mount Vernon 10, Alexandria 3
ALEXANDRIA -- Chase Hetland and Cameron Deinert each belted two-run home runs as Mount Vernon knocked off Alexandria in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game on Tuesday.
Hetland finished 3-for-4 and knocked in five runs. Briggs Havlik added three hits and had an RBI. Bradley Dean added two hits, while Jay Thaler had a hit.
Deric Denning earned the win. He allowed no runs in 4.2 innings of relief, while scattering three hits and striking out three batters.
John Greicar had a two-run homer for the Angels. Peyton Smith finished with two doubles and an RBI. Tyson Gau, Jordan Gau and Chris Marek each had two hits. Cole Wenande added a hit.
Ethan Davis took the loss. He scattered nine hits, allowed seven earned runs and fanned six batters in his seven-inning start.
Mount Vernon (14-3, 10-3 Sunshine League) plays at Winner/Colome on Thursday. Alexandria (11-6, 10-3 Sunshine League) hosts Corsica-Stickney on Thursday.
Sioux Falls Brewers 13, Dimock-Emery 2 (7 innings)
SIOUX FALLS -- Dimock-Emery couldn’t stop an offensive juggernaut on Tuesday.
The Sioux Falls Brewers racked up 16 hits and plated six runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
Sam Pischke, Tyson Kayser and Carter Dye each had a hit for the Raptors. Jason Schmidt started and allowed nine hits, six earned runs and struck out three batters in four innings. Drew Kitchens pitched two relief innings. He allowed seven hits, seven runs (four earned) and struck out one batter.
Dimock-Emery (14-8) hosts Wagner on Thursday.
Miller/Wessington 8, Colome 3
MILLER -- Miller/Wessington and Colome each racked up 13 hits, but a four-run inning lifted the Outlaws to a Pony Hills League amateur baseball victory on Tuesday.
Ethan Vobr and Willie Beckers each finished with three hits for Colome. Kory Foss, Braden Gardner and Dave Becker both had two hits. Ben Connot had a hit and an RBI.
Connot took the loss. He allowed 11 hits, eight earned runs and struck out eight batters in his seven-inning start.
Casey Schlechter struck out seven batters for Miller/Wessington.
Miller (4-7 Pony Hills League) hosts Plankinton on Thursday. Colome (2-9 Pony Hills League) plays Kimball/White Lake on Thursday.
