Mitchell swept by Washington in tennis

SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell High School girls tennis team struggled at the hands of Sioux Falls Washington on Thursday, dropping the team contest by a score of 9-0.

MItchell sophomore Sammy Pooley gave Washington's Libby Nachtigal a battle in their match, before falling 6-4 and 6-1. The same was the case for freshman Madison Bohlen, who dueled Katelyn Nesheim 6-4 in the first set, before dropping the contest with a 6-3 score in the second set.

"We knew Sioux Falls (Washington) was going to be a tough day, they are a talented team," Mitchell head coach Pat Moller said. "We're a young team, and we have to learn from that experience."

In addition to the wins in the six singles matches, Washington swept the doubles competitions, as well. The Mitchell duo of Pooley and Avery Larson dropped the No. 1 doubles match against Nachtigal and Sadie Goodhope, 6-1, 6-2.

Mitchell will host Sioux Falls Roosevelt at 4 p.m. Monday at Hitchcock Park.
