Mitchell native Jordan Miller hit a 3-pointer as time expired in double overtime to lift the Southwest Minnesota State University men's basketball team to an 89-86 win over Concordia University (Minn.) on Friday in Marshall, Minn.

Miller, a sophomore guard, finished with a career-high 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting and hit six 3-pointers in the game.

Miller also had eight points and five rebounds in a 71-58 win over St. Cloud State (Minn.) on Saturday.

Southwest Minnesota State is 11-12 overall and 8-11 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Miller is second on the team with an average of 14.2 points per game. He also averages 4.7 rebounds per game and leads the team with 77 assists on the year.

n Parkston High School graduate Alex Muntefering, a redshirt freshman at the University of Oklahoma, ran a personal best in the indoor mile at the Husky Invitational on Saturday in Seattle.

Muntefering finished in a time of 4 minutes, 5.75 seconds to finish 32nd in the event.

Oklahoma hosts the Sooner Invitational on Saturday in Norman, Okla. The Sooners compete in the Big 12 Indoor Championships Feb. 25-26 in Lincoln, Neb.

n Herrick native Chelsa Baxa scored 14 points and had seven rebounds to help the University of Sioux Falls women's basketball team to a 61-48 win over Dordt College on Monday in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Baxa, a senior guard who graduated from Burke High School, was 4-of-6 from the 3-point line for the Cougars.

USF is ranked No. 4 in the NAIA Division II poll with a 24-3 overall record. The Cougars are 14-3 in the GPAC and play Saturday against Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.

n Wade Hoffman, an Artesian native, was named the Defensive Lineman of the Year for the Dakota State University football team, it was announced recently.

Hoffman, a junior for DSU, recorded 25 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss for the Trojans.

Hoffman graduated from Sanborn Central High School.

DSU begins the 2011 season Saturday, Aug. 27 against Midland University in Fremont, Neb.
