RAPID CITY -- The Mitchell Legion baseball team scored five seventh-inning runs and held on for a 14-12 win over the Rapid City Expos Friday in its second game of the Rapid City Post 22 Legion baseball tournament.

Kendall Patrick relieved Nick Young on the mound and threw the final two innings to pick up the win. Patrick struck out the final batter of the game with the bases loaded to preserve the victory for Post 18. He finished with three strikeouts and allowed five runs -- two earned -- on three hits.

Offensively, Sean DeVries had two doubles and three RBIs, Patrick went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and three RBIs and Alex Bennett had a home run and drove in two runs. Ryan Buck went 2-for-3 and scored three times and Zach London added two hits for Mitchell.

"I thought overall we played pretty well," Post 18 coach Luke Norden said. "Against a good hitting team, we outhit them, and our defense played really well."

Young threw the first five innings of the game and allowed seven runs on 13 hits. He struck out two.

"Nick gave up quite a few hits, but there was no big innings," said Norden, who has seen his team give up a number of big innings in recent games. "They scored a few runs here and there, but we played well enough behind Nick to really stop a big inning from happening."

Mitchell scored six runs in the third inning, in which DeVries delivered an RBI double and Buck had an RBI single. Post 18 also had a big seventh inning, scoring five times to break open a 9-9 tie.

Patrick didn't allow a hit in the Expos' three-run rally in the seventh inning. He hit a batter, walked three and had to work around two Post 18 errors.

Mitchell (22-17) is back in action at 7 p.m. today against Rapid City Post 22. Post 18 will play a pair of games Sunday at noon and 2:30 p.m.
