Fri Aug 12 11:03:40 EDT 2022
There's a different energy to summer practices at Fargo North.

“Every team has their eyes set on a state championship, or making it to that game," said North head coach Adam Roland. "I’d be lying if I said that wasn’t a goal of ours.”

For the first time in 21 years, the Spartans are coming off a state semi-finals appearance. The goal now is to keep that momentum rolling into the new season.

A new side of NDSU fullback Hunter Luepke we rarely see
Thu Aug 11 11:06:49 EDT 2022
On the outside, to the TV cameras, Hunter Luepke doesn't appear to be the most outgoing player on the Bison football roster.

His answers in press conferences or interview settings normally are made up a few words.

Luepke has saved his talking for the field. When asked about talking about himself and the accolades he's received as one of North Dakota State's top players, it was an obvious answer.

"Probably from the camera standpoint, it would look that way. Actually I'm not that shy of a guy, I like to hang out with the guys and have a good time." Luepke said.

It's not unusual to see Shanley make a deep playoff run, but for this year's group, their goals are beyond the semifinal round.

Fargo Shanley came closer than any other team to beating eventual 11AA champion Sheyenne, but fell to them in the state semifinals.

“Ever since we met that Monday after the state semis, these kids were focused," said head coach Troy Mattern.

This year’s goal is a trip to the Dakota Bowl.

Community rallies for Little League team as they head to MidWest Regional Tournament
Thu Aug 04 11:20:26 EDT 2022
It was a cool celebration on a hot day when the Fargo 12U All-Stars gave their coach an icewater shower after they won the state championship. It also booked their spot in the MidWest Regional.

"You didn’t feel like it was real until after it. Then you’re like, ‘oh we’re going to Indianapolis,'" said little leaguer Cormac Nagle.

Now, a new challenge in front of them. Coaches and parents have to get the team to Indiana with a chance to make the Little League World Series.

Anthony Renz steps up as RedHawks manager with World Series champion Coste
Mon Aug 01 11:01:30 EDT 2022
Anthony Renz’s fifth season with the RedHawks is a dream filled with mixed emotions. The 29-year-old is serving as bench coach, but also partial manager.

“It’s been bittersweet. It’s easier to just kind of think about decisions, but when you’re managing a game and you’re making those decisions, there’s a sort of pressure that kind of comes with it,” said Renz.

Renz grew up as a passionate New York Mets fan, which makes it even more ironic that two decades later he’s calling the shots alongside his former bigger rival from the Philadelphia Phillies.
