Mitchell police reported this week that they are investigating a vandalism and theft at a Mitchell cemetery.
Some idiots, it turns out, stole or vandalized several illuminated grave markers at Graceland Cemetery. One was shaped like a cross. The total value of all of the missing or damaged markers is $720.
To all of this, we simply have one question:
Really?
So this is what we've come to, a society that must worry about how well our dead friends and relatives can lay in peace?

Yes, all crimes are bad. If they weren't they wouldn't be illegal. And we hate to put a moral value on crimes, but we all do it at one time or another.
Where does cemetery vandalism rate?
At the bottom. Rock bottom at that.
The Mitchell Area Crimestoppers this week has named the cemetery vandalism case -- which occurred Feb. 6 -- its crime of the week and is offering a minimum cash reward of $250 for information leading to an arrest. To give police an anonymous tip, call 996-1700.
Whereas all crime deserves punishment, people who vandalize churches, cemeteries and the like are committing crimes simply for the shock value, and we will especially enjoy knowing this person, or these people, have been brought to justice.
