LETTER: Mitchell, a great host for fire school
To the Editor:
As President of the South Dakota Firefighters Association, I would like to express our gratitude to Mitchell.
The SD State Fire School was hosted in Mitchell on June 8-10 on the Mitchell Technical Institute campus with almost 500 attendees in town for the weekend.
I cannot say enough on how much the SDFA planning committee appreciated the assistance and work by MTI, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mitchell Fire Department, volunteers from James Valley Community Center, and all the businesses that provided items for fire school.
When the SDFA Board decided to choose a location for at least three years, we considered several locations. But after touring MTI, seeing what they have to offer, and having an entire facility meant for adult learning, it was an easy selection. Now, with the first year under our belt, adjustments will be easy to make for the future.
It was recommended and I am planning to visit with the Chamber of Commerce, the various businesses organizations, and events groups to utilize even more of what Mitchell has to offer.
The local media folks at The Daily Republic and KORN provided outstanding coverage of our events. I recommend checking the Facebook pages for some of the stories, photos, and videos from State Fire School.
On behalf of the South Dakota Firefighters Association Board of Directors, SD Firefighters Auxiliary, and the firefighters attending State Fire School 2017, I want to say how much we appreciate Mitchell, and we are looking forward to returning in June 2018.
Charlie Kludt, President
South Dakota Firefighters Association
